This adds fur as a butcherable item to some animals, and fur clothing and items to the leather works.

MOGG - Greed

Update incoming, I lied, it looks like this will be one big update, I'll tick relevant items off the old planned features below as I get closer to release.
*(sorry for the delay on this, RL has had to take priority lately but I have proof of concept working for per-creature material properties, among other things. Hoping to get back on this again ASAP, for a comprehensive update).

Features - to-do:

  • Negate bugs.

  • Add in pelts as an intermediate stage in the fur industry, that needs to be cured at the tannery.

  • Give fur more unique properties (right now it is basically equivalent to leather).

  • Give fur its own leather works menu/options and more specific clothing and items it can make. (probably remove it for helms/backpacks and certain instrument parts at the least).

  • Add more colours and types of fur, similar to milk in MOGG - Dairy.

  • Live up to the "Greed" part of the title, by adding more modules for other animal byproducts to this potential mod series.

*I consider this to currently be in beta, which means that there are a few bugs, but everything is working and safe to use; I am planning on doing a lot of updates to this. This is the most bare-bones solution I could come up with whilst working on getting some more interesting technical stuff added along with a more elegant implementation.

Right now it adds fur to rabbits, mink and giant mink.

  • Rabbit pet value has increased to 10 as they are now effectively a fast breeding base for an early leather industry.

  • Mink fur is worth three times the base value.

  • Giant mink are also worth three times as much, but also drop three pelts.

Compatibility

At the moment this mod is not marked at needing MOGG - Core installed, though if you don't put this mod lower in the order, you will not see the change in pet value for rabbits. Other than that, it should work fine with all my other mods, in whatever order it is loaded. At some point, MOGG - Core will most likely be a requirement. Also, the rabbit pet value is a work in progress, but was based on the assumption Core would be installed, and they would therefore also be dropping meat.

At the current "beta" stage, this does barely more than edit the names of some creature materials, and adds a few tags to those creatures. One of the reasons I released this early is that though I am not very satisfied with this simplistic iteration, it is pretty functional and more importantly very low-key in what it has changed in the vanilla files, so should work pretty well with almost anything. The only real problem I can foresee is that if another mod uses the same materials, they might end up being called "fur" or the fur might be called something else.

Bugs

  • You can't select fur at the leather works, and although you can select rabbit and mink leather, the job will be cancelled.

  • A giant mink will also drop something called giant mink fur, which looks different, and can't actually be used in the leather works.

- I would love it if I could make fur clothing give certain environmental resistances, the obvious one would be against cold, but right now the insulation value in the game doesn't really do very much. If I learn something new about this, or it gets improved in an update, I will definitely add this in.

Thanks for the kind words. I've actually got some big changes/additions in development right now. RL suddenly got in the way, so it's going to take a while to review my changes all over again to avoid bugs (I am terrible for doing 95% of something end then getting distracted).

Goats make a lot of sense, as some luxury fabrics in RL are made from goat wool/hair. Sounds like a great addition to me. I'll add it to the to-do list for the mod.

Not sure about pigs for the main mod, as pig wool is nearly unheard of in RL, but if I suddenly feel inspired, or people really really want it, it might make an interesting niche add-on mod, maybe with the addition of Mangalica "sheep-pigs" into the game.

Of course, if any other modders want to do it, I've tried to make this mod easily compatible with similar creature/material mods, and the next big update should improve on that. I'd be happy to look into compatibility on my end if someone beats me to it.

This looks like another genuine improvement to the base game, good work!

Would it be possible to add in shear-able goats? maybe some fuzzy pigs too?

Just having a long play-through with this. I might increase the rabbit litter size a tiny bit. I would also want to increase the pet cost for an attempt at balance, and if I gave them realistic litter sizes they probably ought to be more expensive than a dog, for the vast amount of fur you could get over time, which seems a bit much, so I doubt I'll be doing that.

This already raising a lot of question for me over what is and isn't possible modding. I think all the planned features should be possible, if I can work around some pretty drastic bugs in vanilla, relating to skin and tanning. What I would really like is either to make their size naturally drop skin, if there is a way to do it without making them the size of dogs. This might not be possible. The same goes for making juveniles not drop fur, but I'll look into both, just in case.
