Description
Size class 1, Unlock level 12 for RE (vanilla unlocks at lvl 8), early and late game Surface miner role for Reforged Eden or Vanilla Empyrion. Low material requirements to spawn, fully upgradeable with reserved equipment space. Full suite of on-board equipment for away missions. Also has an abundance of cargo space in dual expanded storage controllers.

This ship blueprint was originally designed for Reforged Eden 1.9, but works equally well in a vanilla Empyrion game, with no shortcomings or changes needed. The equipment on the starting ship remains the same, but upgrade items for vanilla will be different than what's listed below (obviously).

Based loosly off of Vermillion's wonderful Forge line of ships (notably his Bulldog miner which the Pitbull emulates), the Pitbull FA-070X serves early and late game with a specialist role: surface mining of mineral deposits. Rocks, boulders, monoliths - everything from simple iron and silicon up to gold and zascosium is easily and quickly harvestable. With it's closed cockpit design, it can be utilized to great effect on dangerous planets for rarer materials.

I have done my best to stay true to the design and look philosophy that Vermillion had with the Forge ships, as I've used them many times in the past and they served me well. You can find some of them as stock ships that come with the game.

The Pitbull 070X is capable of being fully upgraded thanks to a set of pre-allocated and marked space for equipment as you progress. Additional advanced generator(s), CPU expanders, a shield and pentaxid tank to fuel it, and space for two or three turrets depending on how she is configured.

Note: While the Pitbull can be expanded to use a mobile shield and 2 or 3 turrets, she is not designed for combat. Taking care of drones or predators should be trivial, but engaging stronger ships or fortified POIs is discouraged.

Initial loadout:
  • 5,400 volume Harvest controller
  • 3,600 volume Container controller
  • Dual 200 volume ammunition controllers
  • Wireless connectivity
  • Mobile fridge
  • Armor locker
  • Oxygen station
  • Trauma station
  • CPU Extender (Basic)
  • Single center-mount mechanical drill
  • Ranged Detector
  • 1,800 capacity fuel tank
  • 3,000 capacity oxygen tank
  • One Small generator, one Basic generator
  • 14 hover engines for smooth flying and high-G planets
  • One internal RCS to help flip the ship in case she is rolled over
  • Front-facing area lights (2) and floodlights (2)
  • Rear access ramp for equipment
  • two center-aligned, bottom-mount docking clamps

The Pitbull can also be upgraded with additional equipment and mining tools:
  • Up to five mechanical or laser drill mounts (marked as 1 through 5 on front/bottom)
  • Two additional Improved CPU Extenders (marked with CI blocks internally)
  • One additional advanced small generator (marked with G blocks internally)
  • Additional advanced small generator (replace existing small and basic generators)
  • One additional medium fuel tank (marked with F blocks internally)
  • One pentaxid tank (marked with P blocks internally)
  • One mobile shield (takes the space of the black blocks on the top, a 2x3x1 area)
  • Two side-mount turret spaces (one more up top if you use space above the shield)

And as always, many of the thrusters can be upgraded to their advanced versions, for improved mobility. The marked internal upgrade space can be utilized however you see fit to expand her - simply move internal upgrade parts, or remove nearby container extension blocks for more space. The two container controllers are split on the left of the ship (harvest storage) and the right of the ship (cargo storage). If your space for either of these controllers drops sharply, you may have removed a connecting extension block. Simply replace it and try another.

Both ammunition controllers are accessible at the front of the ship externally. Likewise, the harvest and cargo controllers, the oxygen station, and the fridge are all accessible without raising the rear cargo ramp.

Ship Role: I originally created the Pitbull to help with mining on exceptionally hot planets for surface gold and zascosium rocks. She did such a good job I decided she might be worthy of sharing. She would be equally at home mining all kinds of surface rocks early on in the game, and is adept at knocking down stone monoliths. She also excels at stripping surface material from terrain, for example if you wanted to mine salt out of a planet's surface layer.

Build costs (Reforged Eden):
  • 1418 Carbon Substrate
  • 495 Iron Ingot
  • 502 Copper Ingot
  • 347 Silicon Ingot
  • 15 Titanium Ingot
  • 10 Cobalt Ingot
Build time w/raw materials: 37m Unlocks at RE lvl 12.

Build costs (Vanilla Empyrion):
  • 417 Carbon Substrate
  • 180 Iron Ingot
  • 282 Copper Ingot
  • 225 Silicon Ingot
  • 1 Titanium Rods
  • 2 Neodymium Ingots
  • 1 Cobalt Ingot
Build time w/raw materials: 25m Unlocks at Vanilla lvl 8.

That's very cool. That's what I will do with my bulldog as well.

Added a screenshot today to show what I personally use the Pitbull for - Gold & Zascosium surface mining on really hot planets. She's taking away over 6000 Gold/Zascosium per hour, and there's no end of it in sight across the planet.

I've gotten many hours out of the original Bulldog (the one I think you're referring to Vectrasor) before upgrading to a larger SV style miner for planets. She was a nimble and useful ship, which is why this is basically a homage to her but with a specialist mining purpose, and and end-game purpose so you can continue to use her for a long time.

I remember the Pitbull. It was my first miner. Fast and easy to assemble

Development note: reviewed and tested the ship in a vanilla Empyrion survival game; works well with no missing blocks, or loss of function. Changed the item tag & body text to indicate it is vanilla compatible, and added material costs and spawn time. Enjoy.
