Books of Nagash Revamp

Description
This mod adjusts the locations of the Books of Nagash for various factions, as well as tweaks some of their effects.

Cult of Sigmar (Volkmar)

Ideally, Volkmar should not be fighting other Order factions and should mainly concentrate on fighting undead, so some book locations have been adjusted.

  • the book in White Tower of Hoeth has been moved to Galleon's Graveyard
  • the book in Karak Eight Peaks has been moved to Nagashizzar
  • the book in Skavenblight has been moved to Sartosa

Book effects for Volkmar have been adjusted, so that they are now compatible in power to Mannfred with Malevolent Museum constructed.

  • First Book: post-battle loot +10% -> +15%, research +10% -> +20%
  • Second Book: WoM cost for all spells -10% -> -15%, miscast chance -10% -> -20%
  • Third Book: witch hunter/warrior priest action cost -25% -> -50%, witch hunter/warrior priest cap increase +1 -> +2
  • Fourth Book: enemy agent success chance -15% -> -20%, casualty replenishment +8% -> +10%
  • Fifth Book: character exp gain +20% -> +25%
  • Seventh Book: witch hunter/warrior priest recruitment level +5 -> +10, witch hunter/warrior priest recruitment cost -25% -> -50%

Slightly rearranged the order that Volkmar gets the state troops in, primarily to let him get the Empire Knights variants earlier for his bonus.

  • 1 Zeal: Swords of Ulric, Eldred's Guard
  • 2 Zeal: Stir River Patrol, Knights of the Everlasting Light
  • 3 Zeal: The Noble Sons Abroad, The Stubbord Bulls
  • 4 Zeal: Nordland Mariners, Knights of Morr
  • 5 Zeal: Sootson's Guns, Gunderman's Surefires
  • 6 Zeal: Carroburg Greatswords
  • 7 Zeal: The Bordermen
  • 8 Zeal: The Emperor's Wrath

The Drakenhof Conclave (Mannfred)

For Mannfred, the idea is to reinforce his goals in Victory Condition Overhaul: establish a power base in the Southlands and take over important Vampire/Nagash locations, then move north to take Drakenhof and eventually the Empire. The books were moved as follows:

  • the book in White Tower of Hoeth has been moved to Nuln
  • the book in Karak Eight Peaks has been moved to Nagashizzar
  • the book in Skavenblight has been moved to Castle Drakenhof

Mannfred's book effects were already fairly good, especially once he retakes Drakenhof (so they are doubled), so only a few adjustments:

  • First Book: hero action success chance +5% -> +10%
  • Second Book: income from trade tariffs +15% -> +25%
  • Fourth Book: lord recruit rank +2 -> +4
  • Sixth Book: WoM power reserve +15 -> +20
  • Seventh Book: Blood Kiss gained 3 -> 6

Tomb Kings

To be modded in the future.

Rogue Armies

The rogue armies that hold some of the books have been slightly modified:

  • Black Creek Raiders have set sail off the coast of Lustria.
  • Dwellers of Zardok, trying to avoid Sylvanian corruption, have moved to the Badlands for both Volkmar and Mannfred, same location as for Settra and Khalida.
  • Pilgrims of Myrmidia have been changed to the Disciples of W'soran, a mixed army of Vampire Counts and Vampire Coast units led by a Necrarch Vampire Lord. They are now found off the coast of Estalia.

These changes make it so it is not necessary to go all the way to deep Lustria and Ulthuan and you can concentrate your campaign a bit better.

Compatibility

Compatible with anything that does not edit Book of Nagash locations and effects or the Pilgrims of Myrmidia faction/rogue army.
Compatible with mods that purely add the BoN mechanic to other factions, but not if the mod also modifies the book effects.
Compatible with Sigmar's Heirs.

Starting a new game is required for the new book locations and the modded rogue army. Book effects should apply even in an ongoing campaign.

ah I see. No problem if you can't figure it out. Thank you for the mod

@Fibrewarrior I would love to, but I'm not sure if it's within my skills as a modder yet. It would require some kind of scripting to do, I would guess.

Great Mod. I have a suggestion. Could you make it so that being a military ally or vassalizing the owner of the needed settlement for the book gives it to you as well ? I think in vanilla when you need special ressources to unlock items (like Thorek's Forge), the game counts your allies as well. Thanks a lot for the mod

Nice! I was looking for such a mod. I've never bothered going after the books so I hope this will make them more interesting :)

@Drinking with Skeletons In my games, Noctilus tends to surive for the entire game on his little remote island! :D And there's always a danger that places will get conquered by Order AI. I'll think about it, but I am a fairly beginner modder so adding an entirely new rogue army faction might be difficult.

Since you are currently making more updates, I have a suggestion: for Volkmar, I'm not sure that The Galleon's Graveyard is a great place to put a book. I get why you did, but the High Elves tend to conquer it long before Volkmar will be in any position to go get it, forcing him into fighting a faction you've said you don't think it makes sense for Volkmar to intentionally antagonize. It would probably be better to put a rogue army near the location, instead.

@King_Mandu Thanks! Although I have not yet done all the changes for the Tomb Kings, only the rogue armies are repositioned!

Fantastic mod and just in time as I've been itching to play a Tomb Kings campaign. This is much better than declaring war on a faction half a world away so they death march closer to me. Cheers for the mod!

And another quick update that repositions some of the rogue armies carrying the books. See description for details!
