Description
FOR VERSION 1.3!
My version of the Douglas A-24 Banshee USAAF dive bomber.
It's an approximation, not a 1:1 replica.

This is the same plane as my Douglas SBD-5 Dauntless but with a different paint scheme and this version has no arrestor hook for carrier landings since it was land based.

It's armed with 2 machine guns in the engine cowling, 2 rear machine guns manned by the navigator, 1 1600 lb bomb under the fuselage released with a bomb cradle to avoid the propeller, and 1 325 lb bomb under each wing.

The bomb trapeze mechanism helps get the bomb away from the plane in a steep dive. It's no longer Physics driven but the actuator pushes the bomb out, and instead of falling off like before returns to it's resting position, more akin to the real thing.

Alt controls to fly.
W/S: Variable throttle.
A/D: Yaw and ground steering.
LUp/Down arrow: Pitch.
Left/Right arrow: Roll.
X/Disable steering: Landing gear.
Hold X/Invert steering: Air brakes. **
Fire action 1/Num 1: Machine guns.
Fire action 2/Num 2: 1600 lb bomb.*
Fire action 3-4/Num 3-4: 325 lb bombs.

Rear machine gun uses Alt controls.
Up/Down arrow / Mouse: Aim up/down.
Left/Right arrow / Mouse: Aim side to side.
Fire action 1/Num 1: Fire.

Camera 1: Rear machine guns for better visibility.
Camera 2: 1600 lb bomb so you can check your aim.

* To dive bomb approach at altitude (400+ metres), reduce throttle, apply air brakes, go into a steep dive (60-80 degrees), aim and drop the 1600 lb bomb. A green light in the cockpit will indicate the bomb's been released and it's time to pull up. The cradle will swing back up into place ready for a new bomb to be fitted.
Don't forget to retract the air brakes!

Have fun!

One caveat - sometimes it seems like after using the speed brakes and crashing, on respawn the plane behaves like they are still applied and loses a tremendous amount of speed in any turn. The problem persists even after several respawns. To get rid of it it seems to work to delete the plane and then spawn it in from the Workshop again. Either the plane somehow "remembers" the flap settings (like sensors not being reset on respawn but more persistent) or the new aero is being "interesting" again, tbh I don't know anymore... 🙄
