Overlord Tech Sharing

Description
By your benevolent choices you can enlighten your subjects by sharing the lessons about technology that you already learned or you can without your knowledge from them to keep them in the stone age. A more technological subject will be more useful and productive to you but they are more likely to pose a challenge to your authority because the technology gap between you may not be very large.

No longer will subjects be demoted to Protectorate based on falling behind in tech. Instead, when a subject falls below a tech level threshold determined by a policy, they will get a temporary modifier applied to them to help them catch back up. The modifier is the same as the one vanilla grants to Protectorates.

Features
  • Eliminates switching between basic subject types that vanilla irritatingly does
  • Applies the same sort of catch-up mechanism that vanilla uses for Protectorate to ALL subject types
  • Controllable via policy setting
  • Keeps subjects relevant
  • Not applicable if you use the origin Imperial Fiefdom
  • Safe to add to existing games
  • Subjects will be grateful (+1 Loyalty) if you set your policy to Enlightenment

Policy Options
  • Default: 80% bonus to subjects researching tech their overlord has, enabled when tech ratio to overlord is between 50-55%
  • Enlightenment: 80% bonus to subjects researching tech their overlord has, enabled when tech ratio to overlord is between 80-85%
  • No Bonus: No bonus applied to subjects

Compatibility

Should not interfere with other mods and if something else overwrites the few subject types mentioned above, it will not break this mod other than those subject types might switch to Protectorate still.

Compatibility patch for Vassals Expanded and Reworked - FunEFork

Overwrites

No vanilla files are overwritten

Objects overwritten in agreement_presets are: preset_vassal, preset_subsidiary, preset_tributary

Can you add ZOFE compatibility via
is_playable_country = yes?

Apologies for not specifying, but you answered my question with your response. I'll have to give it a try sometime, the switching is very annoying and I like that your mod goes further as you described.

The AI will only use the policy default policy which closely matches what vanilla does so there shouldn't be any balance changes from that.

@Baka Racker Sorry, do you mean parity to overlord or from a protectorate to a vassal? If you mean protectorate to vassal, it will be the same as base game.

If you leave it with the default policy, it uses the same research bonus and at the same tech ratio that protectorates get in vanilla. With this mod, when a vassal falls behind in tech instead of dropping to protectorate they stay as vassals but get the protectorate boost (80%) at the same rate as the base game. When they reach about the same ratio level as defined in vanilla the bonus is removed.

So at a minimum this mod prevents the switching of subjects between vassals and protectorates that can be irritating while preventing the vassal from falling outside of the tech ratio level vanilla expects. The other mods I saw on the workshop just disable the switching but don't account for what the result of that would be.

I like this mod, but it almost sounds too strong. When testing it, how fast do vassals reach a rough parity versus in vanlila?
