[Event!] PRR/LIRR DD1 Electric

"The Pennsylvania Railroad DD1 was a type of electric locomotive used by the Pennsylvania Railroad in the early 20th century. The development of the DD1 began in 1910, and the first locomotives entered service in 1911. The DD1 was designed to haul passenger trains through the tunnels under the streets of New York City, which required an electric locomotive due to the danger of steam locomotives in enclosed spaces. The DD1 was the first locomotive to use an all-steel frame, and it featured a unique double-end design that allowed it to operate in either direction without needing to turn around. By the 1930s, the DD1 had been largely replaced by newer locomotives, but a few continued to be used for passenger service until the early 1950s. Today, several DD1 locomotives are preserved in museums and collections, serving as a testament to their innovative design and important role in the history of American railroading."
