Description
The Aishmail is a one-off destroyer of the Khertland navy with the goal of combining the firepower of the Illustris with the anti-submarine capabilities of the Adyl. The destroyer was on the cusp of being canceled due to the obsolescence of the Alguhas system. Alternatives have been proposed including prototyping of ASW shells on short gun mounts. An actual solution was the introduction of deep diving torpedoes starting with the Illustris but due to the mounting locations, the torpedoes have relatively poor arcs of fire for it to be the sole anti-submarine solution.

The navy has a number of plans to try and address this issue but meanwhile, a number of existing Alguhas stock still exists and it was decided to equip the destroyer with its originally intended load out. It is currently the most expensive destroyer of the Khertland navy to date. However as the Aishmail and Illustris were intended more as a flotilla leader role, their expense were deemed acceptable. The backbone of the destroyer fleet was originally planned to be taken up by the Adyl class for its ASW capabilities. However as mentioned, its lack of modern anti-submarine capabilities have cut short on its intended production. The navy however is looking for a more surface-combat oriented design; the Uriel that will be cheaper and can fill the ranks of several flotillas led by one of the destroyer/flotilla leaders such as the Aishmail and Illustris class.
The Aishmail is actually the more favored of the two due to its large bridge structure capable of accommodating a larger officer staff. In terms of length and cost, it is actually a very efficient design and compact for the capability it can offer. It was a popular enough design that the navy had considered expanding it to a full class of several ships but the cost was deemed too prohibitive and instead the cheaper Illustris-class was picked for expansion.

On April 17, 2025 the Aishmail joined the three Illustris-class destroyers at Ma'at naval base to form the new 'Interdiction Force.' The 4 destroyers will soon be joined by the KNS Sivantse, a new even more powerful destroyer soon to enter the fleet. Together, the 5 destroyers represent the navy's largest, fastest, and most heavily armed destroyers all concentrated into one destroyer squadron. The Interdiction Force is seen as a temporary solution to the small size of the navy until it can properly build up the fleet. Two Scouting Groups and two Patrol Groups will allow early warning and response of enemy incursions where then the high speed destroyers of the Interdiction Force can hunt down. Originally intended to have the KNS Crusader bolster its strength, the speed difference was considered a detriment and so KNS Crusader was excluded. The main motivation to have KNS Crusader join was its enhanced protection which can help shield the rest of the force. However, the lack of reserve stability largely eliminated its armor advantage. As such KNS Crusader will be the flagship of its own unit, the 1st Surface Action Group.
The Interdiction Force is anticipated to operate from Ma'at and depending on the circumstances may be joined by the 1st Patrol Group, and/or the 1st Surface Action Group.
