S.S. Nirvana

Description
This is the S.S. Nirvana, a civilian vessel intended for survival, mining/crafting and player interaction.

The most notable feature of the ship is the piston-operated mining probe: we all know that pistons in their current form are highly unreliable, but the probe can actually be used; all you have to do is to place the drills very close to the rock and activate the drill group; then activate JUST ONE probe piston, let it extend at the minimum speed, then once the first is done, extend the other. The very slow pace will ensuire that the drill will dig into the rock with minimal jittering. Some repairs will always be needed on the blocks around the drills, but that's not a big issue.
EDIT: the latest update improved the piston stability, I tried it and I can confirm that the mining probe is in working order. It still requires to run at minimum speed, to give enough time to the drills to properly clear the way.

The ship's refineries and assembler are on the lower deck, together with reactors, containers and batteries. The lower deck is not accessible (unless you make a hole in the hull), and all the resource handling is made through the small container in the back room. The resource network si also connected to the two piston-mounted connectors on the ship sides, so you can dock to a station or other ship for deliveries and refueling. You can also use those connectors to dock small crafts to the Nirvana.

The ship's bridge is just a small space attached to the central room, which hosts some passenger seats. The central room was made with a survival Rp environment in mind: you cah shuttle other people around, maybe asking a small fee, and create a nice RP place. The ship's entrance is defended by a turret.

All the facilities for the ship's owner are in the back room: there is the small container linked to the resource network, plus two other isolated containers to stash weapons, tools and other personal belongings; there's also a medical station and a secondary control seat. The back room is guarded by a turret.

I know it's not the sleekest design out there, most of my ships end up being rather bulky and boxy, but that's because I try to make utilitarian designs, and put as much as possible in the least possible space. I hope you like my little ship ;)

Eh yeah, the side engines are too low. It's because of the refineries, and also because when I started building it, the design I had in mind was very different XD

Nice space elephant, dude)
Though thrusters could be put more realistically.

Yeah I tend to have those as well on most of my ships and stations :D I'll post another thing in probably a couple days, if I manage to finish it, it's a mobile station, and it has quite some of those secondary passages :)

I was thinking more of the thruster movement speed. But I guess the extra mass also helps avoid getting pushed back from the asteroid by the piston drill too.
Sure you don't need access, but it's fun to have little access corridors everywhere.

Well the heavy blocks are the outer hull points; they act as "bumpers" in case of collision. Also it doesn't matter if they're heavy: the ship is already using only 10% of its gyro force, because the pistons in the mining probe would bend and fall apart if you turn too fast XD Man, I hope they're going to fix the pistons soon.

Also, well, you don't actually NEED access to the lower deck; there's not much space left to begin with, and every function can be remotely accessed.

The double-extending drill is pretty cool, and I really like the combination of glass with the old-style windows. Will have to use that in future :)
If I were to make any changes it would be to replace the heavy armour with light armour. The heavy blocks on the main ship aren't really protecting anything, and they're heavy . The heavy armour on the drill head I'd keep, as that takes a beating no doubt.

PS you could probably fit some access stairs to the lower deck from the rear of the upper deck if you remove the blocks behind the side solar panels
