Mercedes Benz MB511 Supercharged Marine Diesel Engine (with ECU) (XML)

Description
This is a functional replica of a Mercedes Benz MB 511 V20 supercharged marine diesel engine. These produced 2,500 horsepower and a trio of which would power a WW2 Kriegsmarine schnellboot of the S-38 or S-100 classes. Eight of these were supposed to power the P-1000 "Ratte" superheavy concept tank.

This build is a modular 3x3, inline 3 cylinder engine. It is supercharged and seawater cooled. As long as the temperature is kept below 100 degrees Celsius you will not encounter "scaling" of your cooling system.

I sliced one out of my WIP schnellboot and attached the ECU to it. I put the seawater inlet and discharge ports on the bottom and stuck an air ram on the intake so they can be easily identified. The intake has a hidden inline filter set to only allow air to pass through.

Exhaust is plumbed into a modular air manifold where it is effectively "deleted". Saves on exhaust restriction and those unsightly clouds of exhaust smoke in the game. Fuel is pumped in where the brass ball valve is located as an emergency shutoff. I had it pumped in from a custom tank under the engine room deck plates. The large pump on top is decorative and is meant to represent part of the supercharger assembly.

The engines are covered in XML pieces that are intended to replicate the look of a V20 marine diesel complete with supercharger ducting and exhaust collector pipes. None are modified for performance or exploits. Pure cosmetics.

the ECU is a slightly modified ZE Modular Engine Controller. I urge you to download the original workshop item for other builds as it is by far the best ECU microcontroller I have used so far. I take no credit for its function other than tweaking a few numbers and reworking a few logic blocks to suit my needs after taking the time to understand and appreciate the hard work the creator put in.

Engine is not ready to run in this configuration as there is no fuel or electrical power source, nor are there controls or instrumentation. I leave that up to your capable hands.

I hope you find this useful, inspirational or at least a source for some XML parts. I enjoyed making them. Stay tuned for the release of the full Schnellboot build in the near future.
