the Devs from Beyond stranded just make new story by turning the planet into a colony or such, instead of getting contact and get off the planet.
But in the crash land scenario cleary set the victory into leaving the planet with everybody alive.
On the other hand, if I am guessing correctly, the point of the game is to build a stranded community step-by-step and only then, eventually, leave the planet or choose not to. If that is correct, by the third year we could have well over 10 survivors in game.
