Hatchling Crocodilian

Description
"Baby Croc Do Do Do Do-Do-Do Baby Croc Do Do Do Do-Do-Do"

A while back before the pets released in Darkest Dungeon 2, Red Hook did a QnA where they revealed that they would be adding both a baby Shambler and a baby Crocodilian as pets.

I bring this up for two reasons.

For starters, apparently the reasons the devs brought up the baby Crocodilian was since they'd seen a post I'd made on Reddit where I expressed my hopes for Crimson Court themed pets to be added (that was the second post I'd ever made on Reddit with a distinct effect on the Darkest Dungeon community, with the first having led to an upswing in erotic homosexual mods on the Darkest Dungeon Nexus, but that's a story for another day).

Secondly, in that same stream, the devs joked about how they didn't want the pets to have boring effects like "+1% Crit". As you may have noticed, instead of giving the +2% Damage when moving buff that the DD2 Crocodilian gives, this version of the pet gives the hero +1% Crit. This is just a stand-in buff until I figure out how to add the actual DD2 buffs, if they're even possible to replicate in DD1.

As to how you find the Hatchling Crocodilian, this pet has a 100% chance to drop from all (base game) Crocodilians, meaning that you'll get this underwhelming but adorable trinket along with normal story progression if installing this mod on a new save, or mid-Courtyard as the Crocodilian can be encountered more than once throughout the campaign.

For those of you who have already beaten the Crimson Court, my Repeat Courtyard Bosses mod allows the Crocodilian to be encountered as a rare wandering boss in the Courtyard (only in champion missions, although he's in his weakest form so he probably won't party wipe you). Any other mods which let you re-encounter the Crocodilian should work as well, so long as they don't edit the base game Crocodilian monster files.

And finally, for anyone wondering where the Crimson Tick pet is, since his ability involves giving your party the Blood I decided to add him to my Darkest Dungeon 2's Blood mod.

Happy hunting, and please take good care of him! :)

Hey so it has been almost a year, but I got an idea for a possible alternative to the current ability.

What if it's "+1% crit per Bleeding" so if an enemy has 5 bleed per turn, it's a +5 crit boost?

thank you very much for the consideration, I apreciate it.

Yea, you’re right. I’ll see about making Courtyard Plus friendly versions.

I think this (and the blood mod) might be incompatible with courtyard plus. which is a shame as I do like the more "traditional" quests in the courtyard.

@Powerfull good idea. My thought was it increases a hero's blight/bleed durations at 0torch, making it good for long fights, because the shambler fight can be a slog if you're not ready for it. Or summons a friendly (kinda) tentacle on kill.

I think the whole Darkest Dungeon community wants all the pets as plushies.

For some reason, I want this in plushie form

Shambler has a chance to spawn in complete darkness and shuffles your party so...
+100% damage if torch level 0
+30% prot is torch level 0
+200% chance party surprised
The ideia i had with this trinket is that you'd buid a shuffle party around this trinket, i tried to give it an actuall gimmick instead of just a flat out a buff at low light level. But i think this'd be too op if it isin't a unique trinket.

That being said, if you have any ideas for what a Baby Shambler might (realistically) do in DD1, feel free to drop them here and I'll consider making him a trinket (no promises though).
