If Marie passes for the "Master and Commander" of the Nielsens, Karina and Erik can easily be considered the ship's crew. Although physically similar, their hobbies and fields of interest couldn't be more different. Erik likes football, biking and climbing and generally cannot stand still unless an alien spaceship lands right in front of him. Karina likes studying and long walks in the park and spends quite some time with her grandmother Susanne, trying to learn from her the secrets to writing a good story. She also secretly went through some of the cooking books in the library, and shows some promise as a appreciated family chef....on special occasions.
