Kurt Angle

Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle was initially opposed to pro wrestling, but changed his mind during WWF's Attitude Era. He signed with the WWF in 1998 and made his debut on WWF TV the following year.

Angle was portrayed as a face at first, but WWF leaned into the boos Angle was receiving and turned Kurt into an arrogant, elite athlete. Angle won the European Title and the Intercontinental Championship in 2000 before moving on to the top of the card.

Angle won the 2000 King of the Ring Tournament on his way to super stardom. He captured his first WWF Championship at No Mercy, and remained in the title picture for the remainder of the Attitude Era.
