Blue Ridge-Class Command Ship

Here is the Blue Ridge-class command ship of the US Navy.

Originally 6 were planned, but was scaled down to only 3, and only 2 (USS Blue Ridge and USS Mount Whitney) were completed. The ships were designed to command large scale amphibious invasions, but as these invasions became unlikely, they were instead used as amphibious command ships (LCC) and floating headquaters. At the time of their construction, they were some of the most advanced warships ever built, having the most sophisticated electronics suites, a "main battery" of computers, and other electronics and communication systems. During the Vietam War, Blue Ridge took part in Easter Offensive where she exchanged fire with coastal artillery, Operation Eagle Pull, and the Evacution of Saigon during Operation Frequent Wind. She also took part in Operation Shield and Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War. In 1994, USS Mount Whitney took part in a "war game" excerise with the Argentine submarine San Juan, where San Juan "sank" the Mount Whitney undetected. In 2002 she took part in Operation Enduring Freedom, and in 2008 delievere humanitarian aid to Georgia after the Russo-Georgian War. In 2011, Mount Whitney took part in operations during the Libyian Civil War.

At the time of posting this addon, USS Blue Ridge is the oldest deployed warship in the US Navy, and currently flies the First Navy Jack instead of the Union Jack. She is expected to remain in service until 2039.
