Description
Aim: Making unit models alignment more realistic, with no more straight lines and less lined units.

Method: Categorized 3 types in “Unit_Spacing” table, applying each category a different coefficient on the vanilla values – horizontal/vertical spacing, and variation within the lines, affects vanilla and custom units the same:

Mobs/Hordes – infantry/monsters or other units that would not arrange themselves in lines, like beasts, orcs, lizards, etc.

Loose formation – All skirmishers, whether dismounted/mounted/flying, and high damage / low protection infantry, like Wardancers/Berserkers/Witch elves, etc.

Ordered Infantry that should want a tighter formation, due to shields, spears or just not being that strong individually, like Swordsmen, Longbeards, Dreadspears, etc. The tighter formations might clip themselves a bit when they move/idle animation, but it’s subtle, 0.8 seemed to get the minimum amount and best results for the aim of the mod.

All units now have a minimum “Variety” value, which abolished straight lines.

50% more vertical space for non cavalry/monsters, so they seem more lined than boxed, and so would realistically be able to run in formation without stepping on each other. They still bunch together closely during combat.

The intention was purely graphical, but due to the looser formation, skirmishers and high damage / low protection units are less vulnerable to missile damage, while tighter infantry is more vulnerable to artillery/big monsters attacks.

Note – some units don’t exactly fall to the right category, like Dark Elves Raven Heralds having Pegasus spacing, but changing individual units spacing is too much, in terms of work/compatibility, and the changes are not that critical.

Thanks for Opposing Farce “Loose Unit spacing” mod for the inspiration.

Recommended to play with my collection which addresses other battle aspects of the game.

Any comment/insight/suggestion/bug is HIGHLY appreciated and welcome.

Hey, Yes, should work as Radious doesn't alter this table.
Ivan Teurer 12 Oct, 2023 @ 12:35pm

Can confirm. Mod breaks certain factions ability to man walls.

A bug started several days ago partway through a campaign. I don't know if it's related to this mod update or not. AI will no longer man walls at all. My units will not position outward or inward normally, facing sideways in columns or at crazy angles... Any help?

hello, I'm very interested in doing this to my own Warhammer 3 game, do you have a file that you can share on what to change and how to do it?

Keen to test this one out, should look great, does it have any performance impact? I assume not.
