Let It Go - The Abdication Mod

Description
Now compatible with 1.16!
1.3.2: Decision now REALLY doesn't show up for adventurers. The court position won't show up for nomads or adventurers, and now has an icon.
1.3.1: Decision no longer shows up for adventurers.
1.3: Made compatible with most recent version.
1.2: Fixed some bugs with the decision not showing up when needed, allowing vassals to abdicate without heirs. Removed restriction on HRE emperor, and more.
1.1: Added game rules that let you choose whether or not AI rulers will abdicate

Are you sick of 70 year old Kings with bubonic plague, loverpox and critical stress at the same time who really should just hand their kids the crown?

If you're playing vanilla- then you're out of luck. The only way for a ruler to willingly abdicate is if they get lucky with a stress level 3 treshhold event.

A king who is too old may not spend his last days in peace enjoying the court's amenities. If you have a genius-herculean-beautiful heir you genetically engineered over three centuries of dynastic eugenics and you want to play them... you're out of luck, you gotta wait for your character to be 87+ and that heir will be 40 by the time you play as them. Your character might be lazy- caring little for the responsibilities (s)he inherited. Maybe (s)he just wants to retire in a nice room in the palace. Once again, out of luck.

Not with this mod! "Let it Go" allows rulers who meet certain conditions such as old age, bad health, laziness etc. to willingly retire from their positions as rulers and let succession take place.

Afterwards, your next ruler will have the option to either keep hosting the former King in their court, earning grandeur at the gold cost of affording the King's lifestyle, or throw them out.

This lightweight mod should be compatible with most other gameplay mods, including some total overhauls.
Known issues:
- Decision has no real cost. A renown hit and an option to turn it off will be added.

Probably not relevent at all, but miscleaneus, this mod when used with Fallen eagle mod, causes a fever event thingy to popup twice evertime you win a war?

is it finally possible to do saga in stone achievement?
Muse  [author] 6 Jul @ 12:51pm
@Samuel L Right now it's just set to have them abdicate 2/3 of the time. I plan to add more options later. That will be after the next big update though. Currently, I trying to sort of reverse-engineer multi-option decisions like the one for setting up a competitor religion in the Iranian Intermezzo. This way I can have multiple variants of abdications for different "justifications" for abdication.

What conditions will ai abdicate if you allow ai to abdicated sometimes? Can you make it... very rare-ish?

at least not dynamic enough to account for every possible combination of claim-based opinion maluses. I could do one just based on highest conflicting claim rank

@Kelven I'll look into adding a flat opinion modifier besides the one that the post-abdication event gives, but I don't think a dynamic modifier is possible

Yeah, I understand that. The claims themselves make sense. It's the -30 relationship hit that doesn't make sense, since the old ruler (me) voluntarily abdicated to the new ruler (also me). Maybe add a relationship buff that decays over time, to offset the negative hit to relations at least for a few years?

I mean, at the end of the day I guess it doesn't really matter, since the old ruler would be unlanded in your own court so if the negative relation hit could cause issues, you could just imprison him or something. But it's still kinda silly that he hates me for having claims on titles he literally just gave up, lol.

Regardless, thanks for the mod :)

@Kelven
Claims are left on the ruler to simulate historical scenarios like what happened to Murad II of the Ottoman Empire. He abdicated in favor of his son, Mehmed II, but after a war broke out, the Ottoman Janissaries and upper classes forced him back into the throne.

Works perfectly for me on 1.16.2.2

One request if it's possible: After abdicating, my old ruler stays in my court, which is fine. HOWEVER he has a -30 relation to me because he has claims to all my titles. It would be nice if, when abdicating, the old ruler is stripped of claims to avoid this relation hit (which only makes sense, since they're abdicating)

I haven't tested it with nomad government types but it still should work in feudal admin & clan just fine
