Milwaukee Road N3

Description
Background

Introduced in 1929, the Milwaukee Road's N3 class 2-6-6-2s were the final iteration of a design the Milwaukee had been refining for over two decades. Originally concieved as the N1 class, these massive articulated were intended to haul heavy trains up and over the Bitterroot mountains in western Montana on the railroad's pacific extension. After this portion of the extension was electrified, the locomotives were dispersed throughout the system, being used to haul the heaviest loads the railroad had to offer. After over twenty years, the Milwaukee refined this design into the N3, adding a large Coffin feedwater heater on the front of the smokebox, as well as converting the locomotives to simple articulateds as opposed to compound articulation. By this time the N3s were mostly relegated to branch line service, making them some of the largest branch locomotives in North America! And now these powerful locomotives are available for you to use in Rolling Line!

This mod would not have been possible without the generous help of Missy from the Keystone Project. She generously allowed me to use the drivers from her PRR B6SB for this locomotive, and without them I would've never been able to finish this mod as I can't animate to save my life.

Big thanks also to the members of the Beer Line discord for occasional help with research, including the location of diagrams for the N3 itself.

Credit to Halton for the tender model, which is from their USRA pacific pack. This pack is a required add-on for this mod, otherwise the tender won't load as it's just a livery.

Enjoy!
