Launchsite

Description
I dedicate this map to my playtesters, my friends, and most of all my boyfriend who was there for me every single step of the way. . .

Launchsite!!!
a Player Destruction map

Shooting monkeys into space since 1969

Located in the beautifully scenic, and not at all grotesquely named scablands of Washington state, is the greatest rocket launch site/mining facility/farming facility/wine tasting facility east of the cascade mountain range. Also coincidentally home to the largest concentrated deposit of petrified bananas in the world, or as we creatively like to call them, Bananium. Unfortunately some idiot built a farm on top of said deposit, however even more unfortunately for that idiot, we decided to mine it all out from beneath him anyways. Our scientists estimate that stuff’s been aging under the earth for a couple million years completely untouched, just like a fine wine waiting to be enjoyed. Also like a fine wine, these bananas are highly radioactive due to being 100% concentrated potassium, so watch out. Unless you’re here for the wine tasting, if you’re here for the wine tasting please completely disregard the previous message.

Back to what you are needed for. You see after the tragic and brutal death of Poopy Joe, and his subsequent and equally brutal resurrection, the Mann co. Monkeynaut program is back in business! And have elected this new location as the best launch site candidate, largely in part to that radioactive Bananium stuff which also happens to make an excellent experimental rocket fuel. The launch is coming up, we need to put a monkey into space, and we need somebody to deposit all that fuel into the rocket. so get to it mercs, we here at mann co. are counting on you, and so is that poor poor monkey.

Introducing Launchsite! a player destruction map featuring lots of variable terrain, high skyboxes, and new unique map elements

This map features a lot of open space paired with enclosed tighter sections of the map in close proximity to one another. This paired with plenty of rougher terrain and slightly more open arena space lends itself very well to the team deathmatch gameplay that the player destruction gamemode creates. A very large inspiration for Launchsite, is a map like Hightower, or many of the other 'Deathmatch' maps that the community have adopted over the years. These maps are largely played by ignoring the map objective entirely, and are just used as deathmatch or frag maps due to their fun and varied geometry or just an interesting layout. My goal with Launchsite was to adopt a lot of the elements that these other maps contain, and give them focus through the Player Destruction Gamemode.

I started working on this map in February, shortly after the blog post announcing the summer update was released. For nearly the first 2 months of the maps development I was working 2 jobs simultaneously, and was only able to work on it on Sundays and the very occasional other gaps in my schedule i got. Luckily for the last month of development I've been able to get a lot more work into the map, and was just barely able to get it done in time for the May 1st deadline.

This map has been my pride and joy for the last few months. I couldn't be prouder of the work i've been able to accomplish with the limited resources and time i have at my disposal. I hope you can enjoy trying the map out just as much as i've enjoyed working on it.

all custom assets and materials created by me.

nvm it was some kind of audio bug, the rock textures still looks weird

You need to work on an alternative texture for those rock formations, they look straight outta half life 2
Also those ambient sounds made the map genuinely unplayable for me, that is a personal issue to me, but it really doesn't have to be the whole fucking map

This is an interesting idea though it feels rather empty from what i can see
