Description
My version of the Polikarpov Po-2 or U-2M float plane.

Though the bi-plane design was antiquated already before WW2 began the Soviets made good use of its strenghts and turned this slow but manoeuverable trainer plane into a capable night bomber.

This float plane version is armed with one rearward facing 7.62×54mmR (0.30 in) ShKAS machine gun and carries 4 x 50 kg bombs.

The plane was famously used by the 588th Night Bomber Regiment with all female crew and ground crew. They got the nickname Nachthexen or Night Witches by the Germans. Though the material damage caused by these light aircraft with relatively small bomb loads, the psychological menace they posed, always attacking at night, usually with engies off and gliding the last bit to their target, and disrupting the enemies' sleep time after time should not be underestimated. The Germans were apperently further disheartened by the fact that they were being attacked by women.

UPDATE!
The actual top speed of this plane was only 150 kph which means I've had to increase it by some 100% for the plane to be able to take off and fly in the current disastrous aerodynamics.
To overcome the extreme friction of the water, the extreme lack of lift at low speeds and even lack of ground/surface speed in the game with as weak an engine as this I have deviced a double throttle system.
1. When taking of use the Turbo Boost (X/Disabled steering) to use the full power of the engine.
2. Give full pitch up for best chance of success from the start.
3. Once you're airborne turn this OFF! The power needed to get the plane in the air makes it go 950+ kph if you leave this on, and it's not realistic (duh!) nor is the plane designed or trimmed to go that fast. But feel free to have fun with it of course. :)
4. This solution makes you fly with the engine maxing out at about 2,100 rpm, but it's a lot better than cutting the engine out completely IMO.

Sadly landing is nearly impossible since the water acts like glue as soon as you touch it and these realistic floats are too short to compensate for the forward momentum in the game.

Alt controls to fly.
W/S: Variable throttle.
S: Ground brake.
A/D: Ground steering/Yaw.
Up/Down arrows: Pitch.
Left/Right arrows: Roll.
Fire action 1-4/Num 1-4: Bombs.

Rear machine gun (from rear seat)
Alt + Mouse or Arrow keys to control.
Fire action 1/Num 1: Fire.

Have fun!

I have updated the plane with a fix so it can take off (yay me - read description) and keep the engine on on low revs but once again the Workshop is ridiculously slow with pushing through the update vehicle even though the description has changed. Hopefully it will happen within a few hours.

Fuck you Brick Rigs, fuck you Steam and fuck you Workshop - 8 hours and the plane still hasn't been updated!! Fucking useless the lot of you!!!

A note on this plane - I increased the engine power a little to compensate for the heavy floats, but once again the Workshop and Brick Rigs don't cooperate and the update has yet to been pushed through after 30+ minutes. Hopefully it'll be done soon.

Also the water is a bit weird because it's not "thick" nough to prevent powerful planes from "flying" in it, but if you try to land a floatplane on it it grabs the plan like glue and you will most likely tip over.
But again, it's nice we have water at least. Fingers crossed for more maps with water in the future. :)

Sadly submarines were very possible to build in 1.2 since you coud use encased floats that were attached to couplings and when you decoupled them and the flots were not considered part of the boat anymore (even though they were trapped inside) and the sub would sink, and you coud re-couple them since they were encased and didn't actually move. For some reason Fluppi changed this in 1.3 and floats that aren't attached but trapped in the boat still counts for floating. It makes more sense realistically, but it was such a nice little exploit to use for submarines.

I can a agree with that it wold make submarines more easier to make. The water dose need tweaking

If you mean in the game I think it's really nice there is water on one of the maps (would be nice to have water on more maps), but I'm not ahuge fan of how it's implemented necessarily. It works reasonably well in some ways but not so well in others (as in it's basically "thick" air so e.g. planes with enough power can easily dive down and "fly" under water instead of crashing on the surface). It's a nice addition to the game that could use some tweaking.

Ya like water ?
