Intro - The Director's Seat

This guide has the tips, tricks and a "getting down and dirty" guide of how to make vids via the VSE. Mainly, a "tiny" guide of how I make vids at a basic level (There's little to no complicated tips, like green screen). It's also one of the companion guides to

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2439193586

The other one is mainly a "playlist" of sorts about VSE tutorials.

Don't forget to:

Getting Started
Da Splash Screen

To get started with making the video, open Blender, and a click on Video Editing.

Second Method

This tip is for when you're finish for the day, finished with your video project or just finish in general.

This is another method on how to activate the splash screen, like you want to start another video and/or another project. Just make sure that your stuff is save prior you do anything new/going to work on a different project.

Click on the tiny Blender logo icon that's next to the File. This is located at the top task bar.
Getting Started Part 2
New Project

This is a wonky demo how things look like, once you enter the Video Editor. Since, some portions of the editor are cropped out of the picture.

But you're ready to make a video using Blender.

Video Duration

Go to this corner.

Before starting anything involving in video making. Go to this corner and extend the counter number to how long you think your video is. If ya don't extend it to the correct duration, otherwise your video will cut mid way or it will have a huge fade out scene, once the credits roll/YouTube short ends.

It will take lots of testing to find the correct duration though, keep experimenting. Until, ya find it.

The color shade for the vid duration. The parts that can be seen.

This wonky screenshot is here to showcase the vid duration color, the vid duration color shows which parts of the vid are gonna get rendered.

The darker part is what's not gonna get rendered.
Sound - Louder Or Softer
Please ignore my new model, but I have this strip is perfect for this chapter.

Let's say that you've done some audio recording and you just put your it in the VSE. But it turns out that the narration is soft or too loud. So, you click on your voice clip (That's where the red arrows are pointing at).

After clicking on the voice clip, go to the right area where I have circled "Sound".

This should open up a tiny menu of what you want to do with the clip.

1.000 is the default sound level.

So, you either slide or type the desired volume for your sound clip. Keep testing until you get the correct increase/decrease.
Strips And Texts
Cut In Half Strips

First, ya have to put the time bar on the strips that ya want to cut in half. Then make the strips active.

I set this area up, so, I can cut it in half.

Go to Strip, click until ya see the drop menu, and click on Split or press K.

Then your strips (and whatever in the way) should be split in half.

Now ya can either delete one of the slice strip or edit a particular strip.

Film Gaps

There's a few methods to close the gaps of the strips, its either ya drag the strips together to close the gaps or use the Remove Gaps tool.

click on and it will do it neatly.
Strips And Text - Part 2
Adding

To add text to your vid, just click on the Add button, go down the drop menu and click on Text.

Typing

After clicking on the purple text box, the Effect Strip should appear on the right hand corner.

Here, ya can now go to the Effect Strip and type what ya want in the box below it title.

Location, Location,...

To move the text around, just use the Location X and the Location Y sliders.

Scaling The Text

To scale your text, just use the Size slider, by either dragging the numbers, type the correct size and/or click on the left or right arrows.

Fonts

To change the fonts from the default, Blender has its own font library, click on tiny folder icon and select the font(s) that ya want to use.

Note: Some fonts are copyrighted, while others are not. Its' due to the what type of software that is used to display them. Its one of the reasons why I use Comic San fonts, even though at times, they don't match my vid's tone and for some people that font sucks.

Color

To change the text's color, click on Color bar and fiddle with the color wheel. Until, ya get the desired color.

Color Tag

Now ya can also change the strips colors to suit your fancy if ya like or to make sure that you don't accidentally edit the wrong strip. As featured here, I used it to change the text bar.

Right click on the text strip and a drop menu will appear, then click on the color of your choice.

Strips And Text Part 3
Duplicating

To duplicate the same strip, go to the Strip and scroll down the drop menu.

Until, ya see the Duplicate Strips. Click on it and you will get the same version of that particular strip.

Note: This also works for the text.

Footage
Images And Clips

To put your images and footage to the Channel(s), just go to File Browser and find your stuff.

Once, you find them, just drag them down to the Channel(s).

Text Strip Shrinking

Click on the Text Strip to highlight it.

Ignore that I got Her Majesty, Red Riding Hood, killed. Just look at the 'Channel(s).

use the arrows to drag and shrink the text strip,

This is the fake version of the arrow that ya need to use.

Go to the edge of the text strip, like the example here, and drag left or right or go to another direction to shrink it.

Here's an example of an extended strip, after I click and dragged it.

This will make the strip's duration would last as long or short in the clip.
Rendering
Preperations

Its not enough to have the 'vid duration color' to go beginning to end. Once, you're done with your vid, highlight and/or 'Select All' to nab all the strips, texts, and effects. So, Blender can render the whole video.

Rendering

Click on Render to prepare the vid. Sit back and wait for the rendering process to finish.

tmp

After done rendering, you find that ya can't find your vid. So, check the Windows (C:) / (Add the Mac OS/Llinux) and go to the tmp folder. Since, that's where Blender stores your Mangus Opuses. To change this, ya have to tell Blender to place the vids at the folder of your choice.

Uploading

Just don't let this Dollar Store Shirley Temple near your stuff or any animals though.

Default Filming

The main default for vids is mp4. So, use FFmpeg Video, unless otherwise. If FFmpeg doesn't work, switch to AVI JPEG or AVI Raw.

After making sure that everything in the vid is find and dandy. You're ready to unleashed your video to the world.
