南森级巡防舰 (英语：Fridtjof Nansen-class frigate) 是欧洲第二种使用神盾系统的巡防舰。虽然装备了四面固定的SPY-1F被动电子扫描列阵对空搜索雷达(PESA)，但南森级并不具备区域防空能力。南森级由西班牙IZAR集团承造，共计建造5艘，用以汰换挪威皇家海军原有的奥斯陆级巡防舰。舰名是以挪威著名的科学家暨探险家弗里乔夫·南森命名。


南森级满载排水量达5,290吨，是挪威海军现存最大的水面主力舰只。使用CODAG方式提供动力，由一具 LM-2500燃气轮机，配搭两具柴油机组成。两轴推进，每轴配置一套可调距螺旋桨，最高航速27节。

南森级巡防舰使用了美国设计的神盾系统。该系统的核心是舰桥顶的一体化桅杆，上面装置了四面被动式相位阵列雷达。但是雷达的数列比较起其他使用神盾系统的舰只为少，意味着其搜索距离极为有限。因舰体较小，不能携载大功率发电机和相应的燃料。受限供电系统，四面相位阵列雷达只可以轮流开启，导致南森级的战场空中资料更新速度较慢。而且，其神盾系统缺乏区域防空和拦截弹道导弹的能力，以及没有装备战斧巡航导弹的控射软件。

2018年11月8日，参加完北约“2018三叉戟”（Trident Juncture 2018）演习的海尔格·英斯塔号从北海返航挪威西岸卑尔根哈肯斯沃恩（Haakonsvern）海军基地的途中，在峡湾与1艘马耳他籍油轮索拉号（Sola TS）碰撞，海尔格·英斯塔号当场入水并向右倾斜，造成舰上8名官兵受伤，事发后海尔格·英斯塔号为了避免沉没刻意开到近岸搁浅，但仍旧沉没。成为了世界上第一个在非战时被击沉的神盾战舰。


The Fridtjof Nansen class frigate is the second patrol ship in Europe to use the AEGIS system. Although equipped with the fixed SPY-1F passive electronic scanning array air search radar (PESA) on all sides, the Nansen class does not have regional air defense capabilities. The Nansen class was built by the Spanish IZAR group, with a total of 5 ships built to replace the original Oslo class patrol ships of the Royal Norwegian Navy. The ship was named after Fridtjof Nansen, a famous Norwegian scientist and explorer.

The Nansen class has a full displacement of 5290 tons and is the largest existing surface main ship of the Norwegian Navy. Using CODAG to provide power, it consists of an LM-2500 gas turbine and two diesel engines. Two axis propulsion, each equipped with a set of adjustable pitch propellers, with a maximum speed of 27 knots.

The Nansen class patrol ship uses a US designed shield system. The core of this system is the integrated mast on the top of the bridge, which is equipped with a four sided passive phase array radar. However, the number of radar sequences is relatively small compared to other ships using the Divine Shield system, which means its search range is extremely limited. Due to the small size of the ship, it cannot carry high-power generators and corresponding fuel. Due to the limited power supply system, the tetrahedral phase array radar can only be turned on in turn, resulting in slow updates of battlefield air data at the Nansen level. Moreover, its divine shield system lacks the ability to conduct regional air defense and intercept ballistic missiles, as well as the lack of control software equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles.

On November 8, 2018, after participating in NATO's "2018 Trident Junction" exercise, the HMS Helga Insta collided with a Maltese oil tanker Sola TS in the fjord while returning from the North Sea to the Haakonswern naval base in Bergen, Norway, on the west coast. The HMS Helga Insta entered the water on the spot and tilted to the right, injuring 8 officers and soldiers on board, After the incident, the Helga Insta deliberately ran aground near the shore to avoid sinking, but still sank. Becoming the world's first AEGIS warship to be sunk during non war.
