The Sopwith Triplane was a British single seat fighter aircraft designed and manufactured by the Sopwith Aviation Company during the First World War. It has the distinction of being the first military triplane to see operational service. This type of aircraft had also started the "Triplane Frenzy" in which all countries were trying to produce triplane fighter aircraft as fast as possible in order to gain air superiority. The sopwith triplane had been captured by imperial germany and was extensivly tested in oreder to make thier own carbon-copy. It was introduced in December 1916 and was phased out in late 1917
