[FIXED!] Steam Torpedo Boat - "Pike"

Description
!!! read

i felt like fixing this after what. a year. Anyway it should have full functionality now + some extra goodies to get it up to speed with my current stuff. read full changelog at bottom of desc

To know if youve got the fixed version, look to see if the torpedoes have gas flasks instead of the old fluid tanks

the Pike is an 1890-s era steam powered torpedo boat. its a boat and it torpedoes. steam driven. ey.

notable features include:
- 3-cylinder steam engine
- 2 steam driven torpedoes
- split-image coincidence rangefinder
- close to 1k coal
- 30 knot top speed
- 2 6-pounder guns

How to start

1 - Boiler key switch in engine room, hatch behind funnel
2 - Wait until steam builds. check the gauges at the firebox or if the engine/propeller is rotating
3 - Move the telegraph with W/S at either helm

4 - to stop, cut the air supply at the top of the engine room

This is intentionally a simple process, the hardest step in the process is the waiting

/!\ Running at higher boiler pressures requires a higher amount of water to be in circulation in the system /!\

As this vehicle is fitted wtih a condenser, normal operation should not deplete the water tank. If water exits the system for any reason, such as through excessive use of the whistle, boiler performance may be impacted. The water tank contains 430 L at idle, of which more and more will be in circulation as boiler pressure increases, with 270 L spare at flank speed. If the water loss cuts into the necessary volume in the tank, top speed will decrease.

Laying on the whistle while operating at high pressure will cause a loss of 4 L of water per second. Combined with the spare 270 L at flank, this means the whistle can be used for barely a minute before impacting boiler circulation.

Check the water tank starboard of the wheelhouse entrance. If the volume reads below 50 L while in operation, your top speed might be decreased. Flank will be affected first as it requires the highest volume of water in circulation. If the boiler pressure fails to reach the value below at your given speed, you need to replenish the water tank.

Wheelhouse

Telegraph - 3 forward speeds and 3 reverse speeds
Helm - steers
Rangefinder repeater - repeats information from rangefinder
Bilge pumps - bilges the pumps

A similar helm is found at the stern deck. this can be locked from the wheelhouse

Steam Torpedoes

unfold rack - deploys the torpedo rack
drop torpedo - drops the torpedo
activate torpedo - activates the torpedo steam engine. no going back from this point

The torpedo moves at 55 104 knots with a range of 1.4 30+km, and will arm seconds after activating. dropping the torpedo will not activate it, this must be done manually. time the deployment right or use the arcade mode switch in the lower wheelhouse

Split-image coincidence rangefinder

Calculated range - the calculated range
target - what you point it at really
split image - a split image of the target from the view of both lenses

To find range, adjust the lenses until the upper and lower images coincide on the target. a repeat of the range readout + torpedo travel time is given to the wheelhouse helm

Closing stuff

uh boat. cant believe ive managed to crank out another creation in a short time period without losing interest in it. wowee

not my most logically advanced thing but its definitely up there in other qualities. like the rangefinder. and telegraph. i mean look at them. cmon how can you not like that. anyway enjoy this or face the consequences

made for the brownstar shipyards torpedo boat challenge

edit 1: paint errors and rangefinder stabilization

edit 2 (the big one):
- full fix of drive system, top speed retained
- New torpedoes (roughly twice as fast)
- Rangefinder properly stabilized this time
- cooler propeller
- bilge pumps now more compatible with the update
- funy vent

edit 3: somewhat improved balance, condenser improvements

it takes a while but its not abnormal? takes a bit for the steam pressure to drop

ill look at it

i kept writing just "paint . net" and it kept creating a link to some site that DEFINITELY wasnt paint . net. I feel like a boomer and now my comment looks like an advertisement, but it should take you the right thing.

ive been using photoshop recently, but theres nothing i do that cant be done in free stuff like getpaint.net . The screenshots on this page are all edited in getpaint.net using heavy grain and a light blur, as well as layering a B/W version of the image with a sepia toned one to not make it completely greyscale. You also want to increase the contrast as the stormworks dynamic range will look unnatural.

well atleast I gave you motivation to fix it, question I want to make my own workshop creations, what software/programs do you use to make and edit your photos

broken by the update ages ago, if you look at the comment literally under you youll find a fixed version

Why is it moving so slowly?
