[Naganami Class] IRN Recon Submarine

With the fleet's expansion plan undergoing and rising interest in the abyss's resources, the need to find new potential mining areas led to the development of a new class. Potential rivals would have to brave the abyss which is a lot of effort but manageable as the wildlife might not be stupid, but definitely not as cunning as humans can be. The best way to maintain control over the larger mineral deposits of the abyss called for stealthier and faster submarines in order to disrupt attempts of foreign abyss large scale mining. The comparatively small size of the Naganami class paired with the first model of silent run engine of the IRN makes the ship hard to spot by conventional navigation systems, which can let the crew get in comfortable range to launch a railgun broadside before vanishing as quickly as they appeared. Obviously this much noise would attract unwanted attention such as that of abyss creatures, but with the silent run and the opposing submarine being crippled, most creatures will instinctively go for a prey that they know exist and is defenseless.

The Naganami Class was designed as a search and destroy submarine, how to properly counter hostile submarines was at the center of the design. Experience has shown that a single well aimed railgun broadside is more than enough to disable most systems of a submarine, so the original concept of fitting one loader per rack per side was revised and a single loader was used for the rear rack, saving space for more important parts. The coilguns have shown high versatility but low efficiency as an anti-personal weapon, teams of divers and small creatures being the only threat that cannot be reasonably dealt with by railguns, therefore 139mm Dual Purpose guns based on a Pulse Laser system were chosen for the ships. Fitting guns on both sides has shown to drastically increase weight and by extension greatly reduce speed, so the layout was not mirrored on the bottom side, to make up for it an automatic discharge coil system was to be put on the uncovered area, the high cost in energy however made the designers tie its activation to the general quarters system to avoid using power on something that is not worth it. The weight saved by cutting on the bottom guns and the high output engine allowed the designers to not worry about making cuts on the armor, making the class surprisingly well protected especially when compared to the Minotaur Class Escort Submarines.
