The Los Angeles Police Department (also known as the Los Angeles Police Department, or LAPD for short) is a police department in Los Angeles, California, USA. The department is also the second largest police department after the New York City Police Department. The bureau has nearly 9900 police officers and over 3000 civilian personnel, covering an area of 1230 square kilometers and a population of over 3.8 million, making it the third largest law enforcement agency in the United States. Since its establishment, the Los Angeles Police Department has frequently appeared in films and television works. The bureau has also become a focal point of debate due to racial hatred and corruption among police officers. This bureau is also the first police station to create SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactical Forces).
