D-Day 79th Anniversary - Omaha Beach

Description
Notice: Higgins Boats (landing craft for the uninformed) now available in the spawn menu, finally!

Notice, Part Deux: This map is a work in progress! As of now, it is not in its finished state. More will be added.

0630 hour, June 6, 1944. Over one hundred fifty thousand men from all over the West race towards five landing zones in Normandy, German occupied France. Rain and choppy seas hinder their assault, and when they arrive at the shore they face a nigh impenetrable wall of machine guns, bunkers, and barbed wire.

Over ten thousand of these men would become casualties. Four thousand four hundred and fourteen would never return.

The largest amphibious assault in our history. One of the most costly battles in memory. The beginning of the end for Nazi Germany and a day which is not forgotten. Operation Neptune, the sea-based component of Operation Overlord, is an event which we know more commonly as a simpler name: D-Day.

This map is created to commemorate the seventy-ninth anniversary of the landings on Normandy, this map specifically depicting a section of Omaha Beach, known as the deadliest of the five landing zones and one of two which American soldiers landed on. Shown is everything from the initial first touch of French sand to fields beyond the German bunkers. As previously said, the map is a work in progress, and so more will be added than what is now here.

The map is designed to be as realistic as possible a depiction of a section of Omaha Beach at approximately 6:30 in the morning, the day of the invasion. Czech hedgehogs litter the beach as do mines, and a rebar-reinforced seawall stands midway up. Beyond that is concertina wire, and after that are the steep cliffs. At the top of the cliffs are the Nazi pillboxes, based off of a specific Regelbau design, as well as a large bunker housing a 150mm naval gun, based off of the Regelbau M272 casemate.

Small details are all over, and more will be added along with more landing craft (LCM-3s probably), tanks (maybe, if so Sherman DDs), German anti-aircraft guns, and other. The map is posted in such a state as to post it in time for the anniversary.

In commemoration of a somber yet celebrated occasion, I present to you Omaha Beach.
