Radio Station - 1422 3XY

From 1935 until its demise on September 23, 1991, Radio 1422 3XY was an iconic radio station in Melbourne, Australia.

Its glory days was in the 1970s with its rock format and legendary "Keeping Melbourne Rockin" jingles.

In this Cities Skylines playlist, we feature Australian rock music from the 1970s that would have been aired on 3XY. This includes artists and bands such as AC/DC, Little River Band, The Angels, Skyhooks, The Sports, Sherbert, Split Enz, Dragon, John English, Daddy Cool, Doug Parkinson and so on.

Also included are the famous 3XY jingles from the 70s and 80s, plus commercials from that era.

Finally, we also include talk breaks from the former 3XY DJs - many of these breaks taken from the last day of broadcast, before the transmitter was turned off.

For those googling, you may stumble on a current 3XY 1422 station with a Greek format, but it has no history or connection with the original 3XY licence. The original licence was transferred to 693 on the AM dial and was re-born as the short-lived 3EE The Breeze. A year later the station would be sold again and become Magic 693. A decade later (not accounting for several ownership and format changes) the licence frequency would be swapped, with the Magic 1278 now being the official successor of the original 3XY licence.
