THIS IS A RESKIN MOD FOR THE NAVIGATION UI, IT DOES NOT CHANGE STAR GENERATION

Now compatible with Frackin' Universe!


I've felt that the universe was both empty and shapeless, everything inside a boring nebula with various shades of black and blue. It's easy to get lost when the constellations are too repetitive to be helpful as landmarks.

So, as my first mod, I decided to solve both of those problems by retexturing the navigation UI's black/blue nebula background with five distinct galaxies, each one themed around the game's four elements. The galaxies themselves are designed to serve as colourful landmarks for when you travel far from your home planet.



Compatible mods:
Dark Space (but with no cockpit UI changes) (The original Dark Space mod will not work, as the original overlaps cockpit UI)
Zennle's Space Gas Improvement

Uninstalling:
I had tested, it is safe to uninstall anytime!

I installed this with low expectations but it actually makes a pretty good difference. Way better than just empty space in my opinion.

very well Thank you. I will be sure to do that. I usually backup my saves and world files in like 2 or 3 different places every so often or whenever I go to change stuff.

It should be safe to install & uninstall at anytime. Just remember to backup your save file before trying new mods.

will this mod still operate well even if inserted into an already active save file? I know many mods can be of course added to active games with few exceptions. there are some mods that are one way trips or that require a new game. but it isn't always obvious with every mod so I was wonder if you could or not with this.

i like this mod, the galaxies movie in the background which seems unintentional based on what people are saying but honestly i dont think its a bad thing. the universe does feel much nicer now, and i think you did a good job on it.

Before I released my mod, I had tried my best to make the background properly move with the stars, but sadly it doesn't work like a planet's parallax and I don't know how to solve that.

And I also agree that it would be awesome for the stars to be shaped like galaxies, but the part of star generation that defines the universe's shape (perlin noise) is hard-coded into the game, and may be beyond what a modder could do without the source code.

Huh. Having tried the mod now, it seems the galaxies are still in the background, so they don't move with the stars.
I wonder if there's anything you can do about that? I believe the ideal would be if the background had no parallax vs the stars, so they appear to actually be placed on the galaxies.
Currently, I can't tell where they're meant to be positioned on it if I'm panning the view around, with the only consistency being if I explore without moving the menu at all.

On a related note, no idea if it's even possible with the game's modding, but it would be really cool to see stars generate in actual galaxy shapes, so you can have varying-sized shaped clusters of stars with mostly-empty space between them.

It's simply changes the navigation UI's background.
