[Oresme Class] IRN Neptune

The Oresme Class science submarine is a submarine built by the IRN intended for research purpose and in use by both the civilian and military sector. The cheap Barsuk hull it was based on combined with the plentiful abyss resources allows to reduce production time to under a week after the initial order. While more expansive than a regular Barsuk, the Oresme class uses the IRN's 139mm pulse laser at the top of the ship and comes with an empty extra turret slot at the top while keeping the bottom hardpoint, the marking difference between a regular Barsuk's arsenal and the Oresme is its frontal railgun, not only is it a railgun on a very light frame, but it also comes with an experimental twin burst, allowing the gun to fire twice in a single second. Storage is sufficient for most prolonged scientific expedition, including archeological expeditions in alien ruins. and the extra depth charge launcher coupled with silent running and its diminutive size and weight allows the submarine to avoid contact unless absolutely necessary. While the reactor's efficiency is diminished by the limited available room, a new battery based power grid was created to overcome this issue, the L-3 Power Supply system greatly reduces the risks of fire from overvoltage, but requires careful management of power consumption, especially if the next outpost is multiple "passageways" away to put into cave travellers' metric.

The Neptune is a sister ship of the Oresme class science ship. Built from the leftover Barsuks after construction of the many Barusuku of the IRN. The Oresme class being much younger than the Barusuku had access to the new generation engine found on other light submarines. This not only greatly icrease the hull's maximum displacement, but also allows installation of research facilities on board. All of this powered by the experimental "L-3 Power Supply" System.
