Pepe's Wars:

Pepe's Wars is a series of ship collections intended to tell a story, showing an evolution of ship design as a series of wars progressed across the galaxy. Each collection or 'line' of ships was created with a core idea in mind, and the ships within that line are an evolution of one to another, guided by the demands of the wars. Additionally, each different line shows a rough timeline, and you should see how one line becomes obsolete or surpassed by the next 'technological advancement'. For example, the 'beamships' line got out-ranged by the subsequent 'railgun kiters' line, which in turn were beaten out by the 'lensing ships'. Download all collections in the Pepe's Wars series to get the full story in the ships' descriptions.

All ships in the Pepe's Wars collection have been designed for function above form, so please read the descriptions or the ship info in-game to understand my core concepts behind each design. They are not the prettiest ships, but hopefully you will agree they are effective at their roles.

Brawlers:

The 'brawlers' were a line of ships that attempted to take things back to basics during the third to fifth wars; low-tech projectile weaponry, speed, average defences, and no gimmicks. Rejecting the rising trend of massive hulls, they were easy to use and quick to construct, which was novel and welcomed by some in a time dominated by expensive lensing ships and complicated kiting tactics with tractor beams.

The Ships:

Thrasher
The Thrasher was the smallest of the brawlers, produced at the outset of the third war, and appealed to diehard purists of old-school combat. Often these pilots would use phrases like "whites of their eyes" and "the good old days". It use a simple forward-facing array of large cannons to shred apart defences faster than The Thrasher lost its own - a game of chicken, but in space. The Thrasher often struggled fighting ships with tech, but its pilots weren't the type to care.

Vagabond
The Vagabond made a name for itself all throughout the fourth war as the backbone of fleets. Their ease of use (fly toward the target and start shooting) made it great for novice crews at a time of recruiting crises, and it requiring few hard-to-acquire materials was very welcome. Weapons were installed in all directions, not just the nose, and so ship orientation was more forgiving. The Vagabond boasted a huge amount of damage potential when surrounded, hence it was often seen diving right into the thick of combat as a distraction to take attention away from more expensive ships.

Hurricane
Physically much larger than its predecessor The Vagabond, The Hurricane was forced to break the doctrine of small brawlers to keep up with current trends of the sixth war. Engineers were determined to keep the ship's speed, however, hence the very obvious thruster cavity that became so iconic for the vessel. The Hurricane filled the same role as The Vagabond, and so pilots felt very much at home - they continued to dive this vessel into the heat of combat with little regard for the consequences. The Hurricane was made almost immediately redundant by The Claymore's new scaled armor
