Description
Pear's Motor Works proudly presents their latest CV module; the vertical gardens. This solar CV module does not consume any fuel, and will always be running reliantly; making it ideal for all your gardening and (food) storage needs. Docked (to another CV) this tower will not take damage. Or make sure you cleared the planet/are on a safe spot; it is made from carbon blocks and has no shield or defenses. Remove thrusters once docked/parked.
This module comes with 52 grow plots and 8 grow lights pre-installed. The other floors you can fill on your own pace.
In our solo testing PMW had enough with only 2 floors filled with food and medical vegitations, the other floors we filled with pentaxid crystals which basically gave us free warp and shield fuel for the whole fleet. But yes, it is of course way too big. That is why it comes pre-filled with fake plants and fake growlights on the top 11 floors (12 floors total).
PMW opted for this design, because it makes picking the crops very easy to have only rows of 2. Ok ok, let's be honest it's build just for the looks, but I really find it easier to pick. If you care about efficiency you can remove the middle 'column' and install more growplots there at the cost of some hidden solar panels. But it is all free power anyway!
if you really want to fill the whole tower, you need to remove some parts (eg cockpit, food processor) and or cargo extension or install a few solar panels more. It is not maxed out yet. Theoretically it would be able to fit 52 plants per floor x 12 floors = 624 plantsm, under 96 grow lights in total. At 10 watt each you are short about 300/400 watt, which is just 3/4 big panels or 6/8 small ones. or just install few fuel tanks and burn some fuel, it will be pretty (s)low fuel consumption.

455.000 cargo hold
big fridge that always is on
food processor
free power

PMW hopes the Vertical Gardens will make your intergalactic hunger management more comfortable!

pls leave a like and consider to follow, if you like what your are seeing.

This has a nice aesthetic, nevertheless.

Oh, I do something even more unusual: I have a solar *SV* farm. Hitboxes are never a problem because I tower over everything. :-) I have my own personal scenario and I exploit it in my designs, like Reforged Eden/RG.

thanks for the detailed input Vulcan, you could remove the middle column in this build to have 3x3's, than only the rounded corners would be un-used. But this was mainly just made for the looks, it is going to be part of a big base/complex/headquarters. And with the free solar power.. it's fiiiiine ;) hope you like her!

The trick with making 3x3 plot harvesting efficient is to be mindful of the different hitboxes for the crops and arrange them such that walking down the center of the group contains only those with the smallest/lowest hitboxes and the big/tall ones to either side. With that careful arrangement harvesting is less frustrating.

Another option is to arrange 3x3 groups into back-to-back linear "rows" with half-block raised walkways between those 3 x n rows. It's a bit tricky because it's easy to fall off the walkways if careless, and no guardrails can be used because (a) the half-block whitespace is already occupied and (b) they would block your LOS for harvesting. The added height makes it easier to deal with the tall crops, however.

thanks! yeah sure is :) I got it down to one floor for 14 MREs a harvest, might get a few more if I really tune it out, but enough for my daily stuff.. and rest is just pentaxid now :)
