The landings at Arnhem were originally planned across three days: the Polish Independent Parachute Brigade, led by General Sosabowski, was originally meant to land on D+2 (19th Sept). However, due to fog and poor weather conditions, the Poles were delayed an extra two days, eventually dropping into the Netherlands on the 21st. Due to the large German presence around Oosterbeek, the Poles had to land South of Arnhem at Driel, a town on the opposite side of the Rhine. By this point in Market Garden, the whole area was swarming with Germans, and the Poles had to hold off many counterattacks on Driel. 150 Polish Paratroops would make their way across the Rhine on flimsy boats to reinforce the beleaguered 1st Airborne in the Oosterbeek pocket, though by this point this was nowhere near enough to help the pocket hold...
