Kit Homes - Aladdin - The Pomona

The Aladdin Company of Bay City Michigan was a pioneer in the pre-cut, mail order home industry. The company was the first to offer a true kit house composed of precut, numbered pieces. Operations began in 1906 (two years before Sears) and expanded quickly to become one of largest mail-order house companies. By 1915 sales surpassed $1 million. In 1918 Aladdin alone accounted for 2.37% of all housing starts in the United States, around 1,800 homes. The company's greatest success came from sales to industries which constructed company towns around new plants, mines and mills. Over its more than seventy years in business, Aladdin sold more than 75,000 homes.

A host of comfort and beauty is embodied in this model home. Is of the bungalow type with the overhanging roof. The porch in front is in perfect harmony with the balance of the house. The large, massive pillars add to it a touch of individuality.
