UPDATE 9/16: Hi! I just saw that there has been some renewed interest in this build. I will get back to finishing it since there have been some swanky SE updates since I last posted it. The piston doors on the shuttles are gone and are to be replaced by the small door mod. I've seen some new timer builds for linking door and light functions recently, so I might tinker with that. Hey all.

I felt inspired to make this today for some reason. It's a Runabout shuttle from Star Trek and I'd say it's pretty good. I'm not a master modeler, so excuse the lack of pizzaz.

The exterior is pretty spot-on, though I did take some liberties with the top (dorsal) side of the ship. I realized it was a little stout, but that realization came towards the end and I did not care to fix it at that point. The thrusters are from a mod pack so you won't see any visible thrust, which was kind of the point of this build.

The frame is heavy armor, so it's a TAD heavy, but the accents are done with light armor (mostly).

The interior is EMPTY and BLAND except for the bridge of the ship. Please refer to my previous statement of not being a master modeler, but it's the best I could do.

There is a door on the aft port side, and I spent hours trying to build a door I liked, but the piston-gods were not in my favor.

I forget the list of mods I used, but once you download it you'll be able to see.

Any questions or comments would be super appreciated as it is my first PUBLIC build.

UPDATE 8/15/2014: The lack of a door bothered me so much, that I finally made one I kinda like. It's a three part system: unlock the outer door; extend the outer door; extend the inner door. It's ugly and dumb, but it works, so it's actually not dumb (I guess). Beware the high speed turns as it tends to break the door, depressurize the inside and kill everyone (duh, space).

I also added some things to the interior. One day, maybe we will have cosmetic furniture for small ships. And doors. That would be nice too.

*sigh* UPDATE 8/16/2014: Okay, so I hated the door and finally made a piston door that I like. Refinished some of the interior. I'm planning on making another Runabout with a weapons pod on the top. Mounting weapons to the hull has a tendancy to blow things up that shouldn't, so they'll end up on the pod.

A small uninspired cube of an outpost is there and definitely a work in progress. There's no refinery, medical bay, or power plant, but there is a ton of other stuff. There are piston hangar doors and a piston operated gangway for the aft door on the shuttles. Just be careful of how you land the thing. The save has everything set to your ownership so you can access all the systems remotely.

Haha, there's a weird proximity thing that requires you to use upward thrust along with foreward or aft thrust as well at the same time. Haven't been able to figure that one out!

Check the limits on the gangway piston, max should be 7m and min should be 4m. There's a strange bug that makes the minimum limit some ridiculous number.

Oh I forgot to mention that once the gangways are raised they won't lower.
Also not enough thrusters to lift the Danubes off the pad.

I think that is part of some crazy piston physics. I've done that before too. The current build I have saved (not yet published) turned the piston doors into a regular door modded for small ships to keep that from happening.

I just reloaded this world and the Type 9 shuttle went crazy as if it didn't have gyros or thrusters to stabilise it. Weird.
It did this as I tried to enter it.

I'll have to go back in a troubleshoot again. As far as the shuttles needing thrusters forward, I noticed that the mod used has recently been broken down to not include the large thrusters I had originally used. It will require adding another mod pack for the appropriate thrusters.

The hangar doors can...have only been (now that I think of it)...remote controlled. Smart me would have probably put a button on the exterior.

I noticed that since the last few updates, a lot of the button panel functions for the station have reset. I don't know if you guys are seeing those problems. Additionally, the pistons that operate the gangway (stairs to the doors) ALWAYS reset to some ridiculous value on the minimum position. It's set at 4 meters, then I save, reload the world and find the distance can be anywhere from 40 to 4000 meters (adding zeroes for the fun of it maybe?). That requires remoting into the station and resetting the lower value back down to 4 to get them to function.

I notice there is no way inside, might wanna look into that, otherwise awesome world, though the Danubes need more thrusters facing forward I noticed. I'm also unsure what operates the stairs that let you into the Danubes.
