Prompted by an open request from The Cooperative, the EXC-5858 represents part of the first attempt by the engineers of the Nordur Reconnaissance Division at an external, commercial contract. Partly due to circumstances outside the control of the engineering team, important deadlines were missed, resulting in temporary utility features remaining on the final design and multiple planned features being replaced by stopgap measures or scrapped outright. Haphazardly designed initially around servicing the EXT-0714, some features were added only very late in the development process, and the shape of the ship has unflatteringly been described as "upside down" or "two ships in a trench coat" by NRD faction leadership. Despite a somewhat questionable internal layout and several odd aesthetic choices, this carrier craft features outstanding all-round firing arcs and is more than capable of functioning with an intended crew of 2 or remotely controlled by it's accompanying survey craft. With redundant systems in place, it is technically capable of supporting 2 EXT-0714 survey craft if necessary, though it is designed with only one in mind.
