Beijing Trolleybus BK540/560

The BK540 trolleybus, also known as Type 'Beijing-1', was trial-produced by the Beijing Bus Manufacturing Factory in 1956. The BK540 is the first domestically produced vehicle in the history of Beijing public transportation, accumulating valuable experience for the development of the BK640 (Type 57) -- the ancestor of domestically produced passenger buses -- in the next year.

In 1958, the Beijing Bus Manufacturing Factory trial-produced the BK560 articulated trolleybus, also known as the 'Big Beijing-1', pioneering the development of domestic articulated buses.

In addition,the Beijing Bus Manufacturing Factory 'modified' 29 BK540s into articulated trolleybuses in 1961, known as the BK560 pieced version. The so-called 'modified' refers to cutting off the original body and welding a new section of the chassis and body in the middle. It's incredible by current standards, but during that special period, it effectively alleviated the transportation and commuting difficulties of Beijing people.
