AGM-188 "Falling Star" Air-launched Ballistic Missile

Description

Description

The AGM-188 "Falling Star" is a highly capable air-launched ballistic missile. Developed as a long-range standoff weapon to allow aircraft to strike targets from within friendly territory, this missile will pack a punch wherever it may be headed. Although it is capable of hitting slow targets such as ships, it is most often employed in an anti-structure or strategic strike role. It is a rather large suspended weapon, but it is compact enough to be accommodated by most strike fighters and virtually any bomber aircraft on the market.

Functionality

- EHCS Compliance allows the missile to be compatible with most aircraft
- Maximum speed of 443.15 m/s (Mach 1.29)
- Minimum range of 2km
- Ability to strike targets at extreme ranges upwards of 100km
- Toggle-able terminal radar homing, allowing the missile to strike precision targets

Operation Manual

Important Notes
- Select more of the missile than you think you need to! There are multiple invisible parts placed around the missile, so do not use the select tool sparingly!
- Don't click the booster or any of the composite fins! They have been xml edited to provide specific effects and clicking them will reset the xml.
- This missile may be unreliable in extreme weather conditions without TRH. Due to how the game physics work, extremely high winds can potentially throw the missile off course.

EHCS Operation
With EHCS Compatible Planes
- Select the missile, paste under a hardpoint, and you're good to go. No further action needed.
With Non-EHCS Compatible Planes
- Select the missile and paste under a hardpoint like before. Then, send a composite signal to the main hardpoint (attached to the plane) with: | Channel 1 (number) for target X, Channel 2 (number) for target Y, and Channel 3 (number) for target altitude offset |.

Preflight Planning
Each AGM-188 missile comes with a suite of settings used to determine the behavior of the missile that can be changed before spawning. The first setting is the "Nav Constant" for the TRH system. It is not recommended to change this. The next setting is "TRH Distance", which determines the distance from the target at which the missile will search for a radar target. The next setting, "TRH Enable", will determine whether or not the missile will attempt to search for a radar target. The final setting, entitled "High-arc Trajectory", affects how high the apex of the missile's flight path will be. Enable this setting for a longer flight time but higher speed and impact angle, or disable it for a standard trajectory.

Launch Procedure
- When launching the missile, first input the target coordinates through a cockpit keypad. The target altitude offset is entirely optional! Use this only when your target is high up.
- Aim the aircraft within a ±30° angle to the target. If the angle to the target is too high, the missile may lose guidance and crash into the ground.

Big thanks to Kam for helping me troubleshoot this missile.

Author's Note/ Legal

Making an airborne ballistic missile has been a back burner passion project of mine for several months now. This project required countless hours of research into the topic, performance trials, and troubleshooting, and I personally think it turned out wonderfully.
