[Historical information]

British medium cruiser tank of the World War II period. Named after Oliver Cromwell, British dictator (Cromwell Protectorate). It was created in 1941-1942 by BRCWc and was mass-produced from the autumn of 1943 to 1945.

A total of 1070 Cromwells were produced, and a considerable number of vehicles were also obtained by upgrading the Mk.VIII Centaur (A27L) tanks to the Cromwell standard. The main difference between the Cromwells and the Centaurs was the more powerful Rolls-Royce Meteor engine instead of the Liberty L-12.

During production, the tank was constantly upgraded. "Cromwell" was actively used by British troops in Northwestern Europe in 1944-1945, a significant part of the produced vehicles was also transferred to the allies of Great Britain. The Cromwells remained in service until the 1950s, some of them were converted into Chariotir tanks.
