Bastard-Class Armored Cruiser

The Bastard was launched over two decades and deactivated before the current conflict. By the start of the war the Bastard was reactivated by Praetor Volth as a coastal defense ship along Dominion's southern coast in the Praetorean Guard under his command. Volth had served on the Bastard himself in the early 1900s when it had been deployed to Talisiv to suppress uprisings in the region, and ordered to have it modernized with three triple turrets and light anti-air weapons.

The official reason as documented by Volth for validating the modernization of a ship that was obsolete before the war even began was simply that it “fights like hell.” A rationale that likely had more to do with Volth’s personal service history with the vessel than anything else but went unchallenged by virtue of his prestigious rank within the Dominion military, leading some sailors to joke that the Praetor is determined to sink with his ship.
