My take on the German Arado Ar 234 B-2 Blitz (Lightning) - the world's first operational turbojet-powered bomber, seeing service during the final years of WW2.

It is in NO WAY a 1:1 replica but very much an approximation.

The Ar 234's slender fuselage was largely filled with fuel tanks leaving no room for an internal bomb bay, so the payload was carried on external racks. The forward-set cockpit did not provide the pilot with any visibility to the rear, thus the rear firing guns the early models were fitted with were aimed through a periscope, mounted on the cockpit roof. This periscope could also be flipped forwards for dive-bombing however. The defensive fixed rear gun system was found to be useless by the pilots, and was omitted in the Ar 234B so they're not featured in this version, and the pilots relied on the plane's speed to keep them safe. The top speed for the real plane was 742 kph, and the in-game version is in the same neighbourhood. The periscope can still be used as a rear-view mirror and as a bomb sight for dive-bombing, but the dive had to be kept rather shallow since the central bomb is mounted slightly inside the fuselage and there was no device to push it away when released.

The aircraft's lengthy takeoff runs were responsible for several accidents and attempts at resolution included improvements to pilot training and the use of jettisonable liquid fuel Starthilfe rocket assisted takeoff units, mounted under each outer wing. Accidents would often be fatal due to the lack of an ejection seat, the pilot instead having to exit via a highly impractical hatch in the floor.

This version carries 3 x 500 Kg SC 500 bombs and uses the Walter HWK 109-500 "Starthilfe" jettisonable rocket thrusters to shorten take-off and reduce the risks involved. They used parachutes to float safely to the ground after being dropped.

Use Alt controls.
W/S: Jet engine variable thrust.
S/Brake: Ground brake.
A/D: Ground steering/Yaw.
Up/Down arrows / Mouse: Pitch.
Left/Right Arrows / Mouse: Roll.
X/Disable Steering: Landing gear.
K/Hazard lights: Turn persicope.
B/Beacon: Starthilfe thrusters. *
Fire action 1-3/Num 1-3: Bombs.
Fire action 8/Num 8: Jettison Starthilfe thrusters. *

* I didn't set a burn time on these since you might need them for longer or shorter depending on situation, so don't forget to turn them off before jettisoning them or they might get in your way. They do have R/C units so they can be turned off after release if you forget.

Have fun!

Fuck I forgot to add letters and numbers - will do later. 🙄

In fact I barely had the energy to finish this one once I got building and especially once I got to flight testing, so there's no fancy landing gear hatches etc bc I just couldn't be bothered spending several hours building something that doesn't really matter anyway, so it's a very basic plane/approximation - take it or leave it.
I'll make another version with the 1,000 kg bomb and drop tanks since that's an easy enough edit, but that's it for now.

JUST A NOTE!
Me building this does NOT mean I'm going back to building 1-2 planes per week again. If anything trying to build this made me realise acutely why I got sick of building planes in BR, so there's no point in asking me to build this or that plane.
As always I can put any new planes I find interesting on my list, but I have no idea when or if I'll build another plane.
