Description
"They are religious beyond all other Men"

Cults of Egypt is a religion mod which seeks to represent vast and colourful expanse of Ancient Egyptian theology.
I undertook this project as both a personal test and due to dissatisfaction of how Kemeticism was represented in CK mods and in the common view, I wished to create a selection of faiths which demonstrate the breadth of Kemetic beliefs.

Additions
  • New Kemetic Religion Group
  • Reserved Names for Kemetic characters
  • Eight new faiths based on different aspects of Kemetic religion
  • Extensive and unique Godlists for each religion
  • New "Animal Sacrifice" Tenet with associated activity
  • New "Ritual Purification" Tenet with associated decision
  • Unique Titleholder localisation for Kemetic characters
  • Two New Royal Court events
  • One New Travel events
  • Two Counties changed to Amunist Religion

New Faiths

Ennead

The Ennead, contrary to depictions in popular media was not a nationally recognised set of Gods, only in the city of Heliopolis were they recognised as "above" the other Gods. They also believed that the God Atum, sometimes Atum-Ra was the creator and father of the Gods, after creating himself in primordial waters.

Ra Cult

The Cult of Ra was a highly important to Old and Middle Kingdom Pharaohs, inspiring Pyramids, Obelisks and Sun Temples to be built in his honour, and taking up a significant part of the Pharaohs' treasuries. He sometimes replaced Atum as the progenitor God of the Ennead. He remained important to many rituals throughout Egyptian History though was commonly syncretised with other Gods.

The Faith in my mod is a combination and generalisation of these ideas.

Amunism

When the Hyksos were defeated and Egypt reunified under the Theban Dynasties, the local Theban Gods took prominence over the other Gods. Amun was declared King of the Gods, and syncretised with Ra, became the most important God in Egypt, a personification of a hidden force that moves the universe. The following dynasties developed a mythology which declared they were literal descendants of Amun.

Atenism

Atenism was a short-lived heresy which was founded by Pharaoh Akhenaten, who utterly transformed the Egyptian religious system when he declared the Sun Disk Aten to be the only God, refusing to worship any other Gods. The Preiesthoods and cults of other Gods were stripped of Power and Akhenaten declared himself the only individual able to commune with Aten. The religion heralded a transformation of art and statuary that ended after his death.

Memphitism

Memphitism is based on Memphite Theology, another form of Creation myth which declares the God of Craftsmanship Ptah to be the creator of the World and the Gods. In this belief Horus was simply a manifestation of Ptah. An important religious practice in Memphis was the Sacrifice of the Bull of Apis, whose actions were said to predict the future.

Ogdoad

The Ogdoad is another creation myth, which was largely abandoned after the Old Kingdom only remaining in Priestly and Scholarly circles of Hermopolis. The Ogdoad were made up of four pairs of Gods and Goddesses each representing a primordial force which aided in the creation of the universe.

Isiac

The Cult of Isis was a very prominent mystery cult in the Roman Empire, whose rites focused heavily on ritual purification and cleanliness. It was known for it's relative egalitarian attitude, allowing for women and freed slaves to join their ranks.

While the Cult of Isis was more popular outside of Egypt then inside of it, I believed its Egyptian origins justified it's inclusion.

Serapeum

Serapis was a God that emerged in Ptolemaic Egypt as a syncretism of Osiris, Apis and Hades. The Cult borrowed the practices of Apis in sacrificing a Bull to predict the future. It was largely centred in Alexandria and only popular among the local Greeks

The Faith in the Mod borrows some other Ptolemaic Gods, such as Hermanubis and Harpocrates, but Serapis was by far the most popular of the syncretic Gods.

Pharaonic

Cults centred around the Pharaoh, his family members and ancestors, occurred throughout Egyptian history. The worship occurred due to a variety of reasons; Pharaohs have been seen as Gods themselves, Demi-Gods, the far-removed descendent of Gods, living manifestations of Gods or the only connection to the Gods. Each of these have been a reason for the formation of Cults around the Pharaoh themselves

Hi, thank you for the amazing work on this mod! I was wondering if you might consider removing the unused portrait models under gfx, since they don’t appear to be applied in the game anyway. Doing so could help optimise the file size and improve compatibility with other mods that make changes to clothing (Bronze Age etc.). Just a suggestion—thank you again for your efforts!

It seems this is a bug as I decided to do quick test and confirmed that this issue effects other religions as well.

not sure if a bug but when you try to make new/reform a kemetic religion in game you can only pick Animal Sacrifice or Ritual Purification Tenets.
