VCZ Elevator v2.0

Description
THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE A SPACE ELEVATOR
The 200 block limit is in place for the reasons of game performance. If that limit were increased it tanks game performance up to and including crashing the game or I would have released it with more than a 200 block limit. Many people have asked about those limits wanting to make a space elevator out of it. Being a space elevator is not the intention of this mod. It's intended to be an elevator in a Station. It does not work on moving vehicles, either, because there are loose, floating, parts in it = Klang and Bang then kaboom when it's placed on a moving vehicle.

WE'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO GRIND THE CABIN BUTTONS OR FLOOR.
GRIND THE ROTOR BLOCK OUTSIDE, NOT THE BUTTONS.
If you have mistakenly done this close the game, remove the mod and launch the game without it, then save and reload the mod. There is a reason the buttons can't be deleted or ground directly = it crashes the game if the code is changed to do that.

Tested and working May 7, 2025. Works but a conflict with Modular Encounters System was found.
That MES conflict should not effect multiplayer games.

How to build it (YouTube Video):
https://youtu.be/kl50Cm57x_Y

Text Version of how to build it:
1. Place a VCZ Elevator Bottom block. (must be on a powered grid).
2. Place a VCZ Elevator Rotor block. (NOT the VCZ Elevator Rotor Base block).
3. Place VCZ Elevator Fillers and Middle blocks for multiple floors as needed.
4. Place a VCZ Elevator Top block.
Done.

How to build it with the Rotor Base
1. Place the Rotor Base block under where you want your bottom floor.
2. Place a Middle or Double Middle Block.
3. Build the rest as needed and place an elevator Top block on the top.

If you'd like to build it down from the top follow the above instructions backwards.

Tests to insure it still works:

May 27, 2024. Working (post Hotfix update)
August 26, 2024. Working.
October 3, 2024 update and tested deleting the cabin. Working.
October 14, 2024, Contact update. Working.
November 19, 2024. Working.
December 16, 2024. Working.
February 23, 2025. Working.
May 7, 2025. Working, but issue confirmed after a report that there's a conflict with MES.

Known Issues:
1. If MES (Modular Encounters Systems) is also active the buttons break and stop working in single player after leaving and reloading the game.
- Workaround "fix": Grind away the rotor block (from the outside, do not grind the buttons or cabin!!!!) and replace it.

Tested. I built 4 different elevators on the same grid 100 blocks high from the planet's surface. No crash. Game ran smoothly, elevators operated smoothly. I need your world (save) to see what's going on in your game, tangosierra7.

I can try save as well if need. Let me know.

The 200 block limit is per elevator. Each one we build can be 200 blocks high top to bottom.
I haven't ever had this crash my game, but I haven't built an elevator that tall other than years ago when I was testing the block limit though either.

Share your world please so I can see it and test it on my (potato of a) system. I'll see if I can get to the 200 block limit without crashing in the meantime.

Is the 200 block limit per run or total blocks? I had just used the mod to build a length of elevator that ended at under 100 blocks. While constructing a second separate run I had a CTD.

I switched my world to creative to reset the entire grid, just to be safe. Now that i removed everything of MES it works, for now..

I didn't rebuild the entire elevator just the Rotor Block....by the way.

I see. I reloaded the test world I made and saw that it is true that this happens. That's beyond my skill set to fix because I'd have to dig through MES to find the conflict. MES is way beyond what I can do.

It sucks but until a fix magically appears, or I find it which is unlikely, re-doing the rotor block is the workaround we'll have to deal with. This shouldn't and hopefully doesn't happen on servers.

In my case the elevators break after reloading, they function fine upon being built, but the moment the save loads in again, the buttons break

strange, i had a savefile where i had it with just this mod and blank MES and only when MES was active the elevator would break
Jack Schitt  [author] 7 May @ 10:33am
Sally Smithson: That is not true. I have just tested it with MES and a few of it's addons installed (Trade Collation, Imber, Parallax) and it worked perfectly. You probably have a conflict with another or multiple other mods.
