How to use the Flak 88/36.

Stormworks battlefield's offer a multitude of difficulties to overcome. This comprehensive guide will teach you how to best use your weapon in such environments:

Picking your spot.

As an aspiring gun commander, it is your job to find a suitable location for the weapon.
Good spots should have:
  1. High ground
  2. Cover such as trees
  3. A commanding view of the area
  4. An easy escape route should things go wrong
Remember, the flak is a long ranged sniping weapon, and as such it is lightly armoured. Furthermore it is less mobile than its main opponents, tanks and aircraft, so it is good practice to give yourself plenty of distance to pick off the enemy and still have time to retreat should you need to.

Of course another important aspect of finding the right spot is to get there in the first place with a decent truck. For this, Genesis recommends it's 38M Mobile Battle Station for it's excellent off-road-ability, in-built shell storage and ability to hold up to 9 extra, fully armed soldiers, allowing for both anti tank and infantryman to cover for each other's weaknesses.

Before the shooting.

Before the enemies arrive, it is prudent for the gunner to fire some test shells at local landmarks to work out the range and correct elevation to hit precisely. Its important to pick out objects that will be easily locate-able in the heat of battle such as a end in a road or an old shack. This way, when the enemy reaches this point, you won't have to estimate how high to aim and can strike them down with unrivalled precision and efficiency. Likewise, the commander can use these landmarks to quickly direct the gunner to the right target.

Park the truck as nearby as possible so that the loader has an easier time of running to get more but don't park it so close such that it is in danger of enemy fire. Remember, it is your best chance of escape.
It is also recommended that the loader move a part of the ammunition into a pile near the gun to allow for quicker reloading for the first few shots, however don't move too much as it risks getting hit and exploding among other things. It seems obvious but it is also important not to forget to turn on the gun's wheel brakes.

The shooty bit.

As previously mentioned, the Flak 88 is best utilised by a crew of three:
  • The gunner sits in the gunner's chair and uses aiming skill and intuition to fire the weapon and hit the enemy. He has a simple, yet difficult job, so don't insult or mock him if he performs poorly.

  • The Commander is the leader of the group and makes command decisions such as where to set up, which enemies to target and when, what type of shells to use or if / when to retreat. The Commander uses the binoculars and compass provided on the left side of the gun to find, identify and select targets and decide which one the gunner should fire at. This can be done by describing whats around (eg: "Medium tank, right side of the green barn!") or by stating the compass heading of the target , which the gunner can then traverse the gun to, to see the target (eg: "Large bomber, bearing 315!"). Note that for the latter to work well, the commander must be near to the gun.

  • The loader finds and loads the correct shell type into the gun, as instructed by the commander. A good loader should always have a few rounds waiting by the gun and should never be idle. It is good practice to let the crew know that the gun is ready to fire once you have loaded the correct shell. Loading is done by inserting the shell into the breech and turning the key. If a mistake is made, the key can be un-turned and the un-used cartridge extracted and saved for later use.

Genesis incorporated requires remakes/remixes of its products to list the original as a required item. However if you are just using this as part of a larger build then we simply ask that you link to this page in your description. Thank you!

nice 88
Its got a nice overall shape, but one thing that might need some slight improvements is the camo. Make the camo less "all over the place" and use somewhat bigger lines for the colours. That would be all
