Foreword: Explanation of Affinity
Affinity is a core factor behind most unlockables in the game. Affinity is awarded in the form of "points" for a specific character when certain dialogue choices are selected, indicated by a sound cue and a spinning card on the top left of the screen (though sometimes the card is thrown for separate tracked values). Generally, affinity is awarded at the rate of one point per positive decision.
Affinity cannot be lost by "bad" choices. Some choices give points to multiple characters.
Raw affinity values are not given by the game (outside of decrypting your save file), and instead, Affinity is divided into tiers, which are indicated by which orbit a character's icon is in. The "tiers" for affinity are, on the chart in the pause menu:
  • Not on the chart: 0
  • First ring: 1-4 (Tier 1)
  • Second ring: 5-10 (Tier 2)
  • Third ring: 11-15 (Tier 3)
  • Fourth ring: 16+ (Tier 4)
Many unlocks require some threshold of affinity to be reached for them to be unlocked. A select few unlocks require substantial amounts of affinity with a character, far surpassing the normal bands.

Additionally, Fang has a hidden self-affinity value, which is relevant for at least one photo. It is not shown anywhere, but will also generally trigger the sound cue and spinning card graphic when it changes.

A guide for max affinity with each character (including Fang) can be found here.

That's a Good One

Unlock your first Photo

Unlock any one Photo.

This can be obtained very quickly by selecting "If Trish is there, it'll be a good time." after the first band meeting in Episode One, which will give you a scene with Trish that has a photo unlock at the end of it. Another early photo to unlock is by choosing to help Naser with his speech in Episode Two, and then selecting "He did okay!" once he gives it.

Remember That One Time?

Unlock your first Flashback

Flashbacks are unlocked by hitting a certain level of affinity with a character. The specific thresholds are:

  • Naser: 8
  • Trish: 7
  • Rosa: 3
  • Reed: 10
  • Stella: 4
  • Naomi: 7

Of these, Naser's flashback can be obtained the quickest. Naser has plenty of opportunities to have his affinity raised high enough even in the first couple of episodes. Most notably, a minimum of one point is awarded for even going through the car drive scene in Episode Two, and helping him with his speech will lead to a number of points as well.
Episode Completion Achievements

Complete episode 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8

Freebie milestone achievements; all of these will be unlocked over the course of beating the game for the first time.
Critical Hit

Roll a natural 20 in L&L

This is entirely luck-based, as most rolls in the L&L sections are more or less a pure 1d20, meaning you have a ~5% chance to get this achievement every time a roll is performed. This can either be a very quick or a very tedious process, depending on your luck.
Some rolls across the sessions are forced to give a very high outcome, making this achievement markedly easier to get than Critical Miss.

This process can be sped up by save-scumming: by quitting to main menu and then continuing before a session ends, you can redo that particular session until it fires.
Critical Miss

Roll a natural 1 in L&L

This is entirely luck-based, as the rolls in the L&L sections are more or less a pure 1d20, meaning you have a ~5% chance to get this achievement every time a roll is performed. This can either be a very quick or a very tedious process, depending on your luck (or lack thereof).
Some rolls across the sessions are forced to give a very high outcome, making this achievement markedly harder to get than Critical Hit.

This process can be sped up by save-scumming: by quitting to main menu and then continuing before a session ends, you can redo that particular session until it fires.
Spelunker*

Go to the Crystal Caves in L&L

During the first session of L&L, choose to go to the Crystal Caves, then complete the session.

It will take a minimum of two playthroughs to get all four of the "do this area" L&L achievements by completing two in one and the other two in the other.
Librarian*

Go to the Flybrary in L&L

During the first session of L&L, choose to go to the Library, then complete the scene.

It will take a minimum of two playthroughs to get all four of the "do this area" L&L achievements by completing two in one and the other two in the other.
Forester*

Go to the Forest in L&L

During the second L&L session, choose to go to the Swamp, then complete the session.

It will take a minimum of two playthroughs to get all four of the "do this area" L&L achievements by completing two in one and the other two in the other.
Historian*

Go to the desert ruins in L&L

During the second L&L session, choose to go the Temple, then complete the session.

It will take a minimum of two playthroughs to get all four of the "do this area" L&L achievements by completing two in one and the other two in the other.
Keep Your Hands Off My Phone*

Keep Ms. Roberts from taking your phone in class

During the homeroom scene in Episode One, successfully button mash your way to selecting "You can't have it." when Ms. Roberts tries to confiscate Fang's phone.
Wild Worm Chase

Catch Mango

During Episode Three, successfully complete the quick-time event and catch Mango without Fang getting slimed.

This achievement can be savescummed if you mess up: when the text chatlog appears, quit to main menu, then continue, and you will be put back to only a little bit before the quick-time event.
Intimate Venue*

Get over 90% playing for Naomi and Naser

Miss only a few or no notes when playing the piano for Naomi and Naser in Episode One.

With how early it is, it is generally one of the less tricky charts to mess up.

This achievement can be save-scummed if you mess up at the end; quitting to main menu and continuing will put you back at the beginning of the preceding dialogue section, allowing you to reach and then perform the song again.

With all music performances, "Generous Timing" can be enabled in the Accessibility options to reduce the difficulty.
Killed It*

Get over 90% at the Audition performance

Miss only a few or no notes during the audition for Battle of the Bands during Episode Two.

With all music performances, "Generous Timing" can be enabled in the Accessibility options to reduce the difficulty.
Your Moment*

Get over 90% on Fang's solo performance

Miss only a few or no notes during Fang's acoustic guitar performance during Battle of the Bands in Episode Five.

With all music performances, "Generous Timing" can be enabled in the Accessibility options to reduce the difficulty.
Take the Stage*

Get over 90% at the Battle of the Bands performance

Miss only a few or no notes during the full-band performance during Battle of the Bands in Episode Five.

The chart for this song is quite similar to the audition one, albeit a bit harder.

With all music performances, "Generous Timing" can be enabled in the Accessibility options to reduce the difficulty.
Out with a Bang*

Get over 90% playing your last concert

Miss only a few or zero notes during the final musical performance in Episode Eight.

With all music performances, "Generous Timing" can be enabled in the Accessibility options to reduce the difficulty.

Side note: avoid headbanging too hard during the song, or else you might mess up too many times.
Tighten The Screws*

Get 100% on any performance

During one of the rhythm game sections, do not miss a single note. You do not need to get perfect timings for this achievement.
The specific performances that this achievement concerns itself with are the ones that have "get a 90% performance or better" achievements. These include:
  • Fang's piano performance in Episode 1 (Intimate Venue)
  • Battle of the Bands audition in Episode 2 (Killed It)
  • Fang's solo performance in Episode 5 (Your Moment)
  • Worm Drama's main show for Battle of the Bands in Episode 5 (Take the Stage)
  • The final performance in Episode 8 (Out with a Bang)
The other two Episode 1 performances, and the band practice performance in Episode 2, do not appear to be tracked.

Of these, the piano performance in Episode 1 is the best one to grind for trying to get this achievement. Not only is it earlier in the game, where charts are less complicated, but the rhythm section takes place between save points, meaning it can be savescummed until a perfect playthrough of it is achieved.

With all music performances, "Generous Timing" can be enabled in the Accessibility options to reduce the difficulty.

This achievement was missing from this guide for almost a year lol
Love Story*

Go on a date with Naomi

During Naomi's bonfire scene in Episode Seven, select "More than friends" to romance her, then in Episode Eight, accept her invitation to a date.
Little Brother

See all extra content with Naser

The following scenes must be completed:

  • Naser's one-on-one scene in Episode Five.
  • Naser's bonfire scene in Episode Seven.
  • Naser's flashback, which is unlocked at 8 affinity; this can be done in any episode.

Naser's one-on-one scene in Episode Five can be obtained by choosing to apologize to him after the power pose minigame.

Naser's bonfire scene requires at least 16 affinity with him to be accessible. As long as he is in the innermost ring by the beginning of Episode Seven, then it will be available.
Lore Master

See all extra content with Reed

The following scenes must be completed:

  • Reed's one-on-one scene in Episode One.
  • Reed's bonfire scene in Episode Seven.
  • Reed's flashback, which is unlocked at 10 affinity; this can be done in any episode.

The Episode One scene can be reached by selecting "Reed loves this stuff, I'm in." at the end of the first band meeting. This will lead to a scene with Fang talking with Reed while waiting for the bus to show up.

His bonfire scene requires at least 18 affinity in order to accessible. This is a bit of the way into the inner ring, so to be on the safe side, try to avoid being rude to him, and be receptive when he tries to be supportive. Additionally, show some initiative (pun intended) during L&L sessions, instead of necessarily leaning on other people during them.
Pretty Heroes

See all extra content with Naomi

The following scenes must be completed:

  • Naomi's one-on-one scene during Episode Two.
  • Naomi's bonfire scene during Episode Seven.
  • One of Naomi's two separate scenes in Episode Eight.
  • Naomi's flashback, which is unlocked at 7 affinity; this can be done in any episode.

Naomi's one-on-one scene in Episode Two can be accessed by choosing to hang back rather than sitting with Trish and Rosa during the assembly.

Naomi's bonfire scene is always available.

Naomi has two separate Episode Eight scenes, and only one of them needs to be obtained for completion of this achievement*. If romanced, Naomi will initially suggest a date, and if this is turned down, Naomi will instead visit Fang's house for a movie night. Choosing not to romance Naomi will always lead to the movie night scene, thus not stopping progress for this achievement in that playthrough.

*Or at least I think so. I did the date scene first, then the EP2 scene in another and it fired without me having done the movie night scene, so I'm assuming it works the other way around as well.
Taste Tester

See all extra content with Sage

The following scenes must be completed:

  • Sage's one-on-one scene in Episode Four.
  • Sage's bonfire scene in Episode Seven.

Sage's one-on-one can be obtained by selecting "Totally." when he posits that he's going to try and make a career out of cooking when the group is discussing their future plans in Episode Four.

His bonfire scene requires a minimum of 5 affinity in order to be accessible. So long as he is in the second or third rings of the affinity chart by Episode Seven, then his scene will definitely be available.
Mystic Matters

See all extra content with Stella

The following scenes must be completed:

  • Stella's one-on-one scene in Episode Three.
  • Stella's bonfire scene in Episode Seven.
  • Stella's flashback, which is unlocked at 4 affinity; this can be done in any episode.

Stella's scene in Episode Three requires you to select "Is this the right path?" after the tarot card drawing with her and Sage earlier in the episode. Which card you draw in specific does not matter.

Stella's bonfire scene in Episode Seven requires at least 5 affinity in order to be accessible. So long as she is in the second or third rings of the affinity chart by Episode Seven, then her scene will definitely be available.
Surprise Friendship

See all extra content with Rosa

The following scenes must be completed:

  • Rosa's one-on-one scene in Episode Two.
  • Rosa's bonfire scene in Episode Seven.
  • Rosa's flashback, which is unlocked at 3 affinity; this can be done in any episode.

Rosa's one-on-one scene is accessed by choosing to sit with Trish and Rosa at the assembly in Episode Two.

Rosa's bonfire scene requires you to have at least 10 affinity with Rosa. This is one of the more difficult bonfire scenes to get, as there aren't as many opportunities to raise affinity with her. Past being welcoming and accommodating to her, interacting with her character Maia in the L&L sections is also very helpful, especially by approving of Maia's infatuation with Keph.
Worms Forever

See all extra content with Trish

The following scenes must be completed:

  • Trish's one-on-one scene in Episode One.
  • Trish's bonfire scene in Episode Seven.
  • A second one-on-one scene with Trish in Episode Eight after Fang receives the Very Bad News, replacing the normal scene that would occur after that one.
  • Trish's flashback, which is unlocked at 7 affinity; this can be done in any episode.

Trish's first one-on-one scene in Episode One can be reached by selecting "If Trish is there, it'll be a good time." at the end of the first band meeting. This will lead to Fang talking with Trish while waiting for the bus to show up.

Trish's bonfire scene is always available.

Trish's second one-on-one scene in Episode Eight is by far the most difficult of any special scene to reach in the game. It requires you to have an extremely high level of affinity with her: at least 27 points for the scene to play. This ultimately requires you to select the vast majority of dialogue options that raises affinity with her—a monumentous task in and of itself. For pointers: be understanding and sympathetic towards her desires to want to move away from the band; try to approve of her desires to explore her own interests (even if Fang doesn't want to let you sometimes); be nice to Rosa; and interact with Olly at every opportunity in the L&L sessions, such as by choosing decisions that she favors during them.*
On the bright side, this scene is really, really freaking good, so it's worth it in the end imo.

*On the technical side, the save file holds a variable called "trishPercent", which may be the true controller for if this scene, as well as the prior photo unlock with Trish, fires or not. This variable probably looks at affinity, and then checks to see if you took any of the "mean" options for her that would otherwise not affect affinity. Further studying is required, studying that I don't know enough about datamining to do.
Eidetic Memory

Unlock all Flashbacks

Flashbacks are unlocked by hitting a certain level of affinity with a character. The specific thresholds are:

  • Naser: 8
  • Trish: 7
  • Rosa: 3
  • Reed: 10
  • Stella: 4
  • Naomi: 7

Although previously unlocked flashbacks will be lost again when starting a new game, their progress will still be retained for completion of this achievement.

Due to the relatively low thresholds for the flashbacks, this achievement can be obtained in a single playthrough, as none of the concerned characters need to have their affinities raised substantially high. Simply being friendly to them in dialogue options, and through that steadily building their affinity, is a reliable way to gain all of their flashbacks.
Virtuoso

Get over 90% on all music performances

Miss only a few or zero notes during each major rhythm game section, across any number of playthroughs.

With all music performances, "Generous Timing" can be enabled in the Accessibility options to reduce the difficulty.
Friends of Mine*

Talk to everyone at the bonfire

Complete every characters' bonfire scenes during Episode Seven, across any number of playthroughs.
The affinity thresholds for each character's scenes are:
  • Stella: 5
  • Sage: 5
  • Rosa: 10
  • Naser: 16
  • Reed: 18
Naomi and Trish's bonfire scenes are always available, regardless of affinity.

This achievement will take a minimum of three playthroughs, as only one scene between Stella's, Sage's, and Rosa's can be viewed during a run, as well as only one between Naser's and Reed's, even if you reach the affinity thresholds to unlock all of them in a single playthrough.

This limitation can, however, be partially circumvented through the following method:
  1. Disable Steam Cloud saves
  2. Trigger at least one game save, either by reaching a new scene or starting a save and then quitting to main menu.
  3. Play through the game, and get everyone's affinities high enough to access their bonfire scenes.
  4. Reach the bonfire scene where the branching cards to select one of Rosa's, Sage's, or Stella's bonfire scenes appears.
  5. Manually copy data.txt of Goodbye Volcano High_Data/saves to somewhere else; this is your save file.
  6. Complete whichever bonfire scenes you want.
  7. Fully quit out of the game, then move that copied save file back into Goodbye Volcano High_Data/saves and overwrite the one that had progressed through already.
  8. Complete two more bonfire scenes that you haven't done yet.
  9. Repeat until the achievement is awarded.
Different Kind of Album

Unlock all Photos

Unlock all 32 photos across any number of playthroughs. Although previously unlocked photos will be lost again when starting a new game, their progress will still be retained for completion of this achievement, and can be viewed again by toggling the "All-Time Photo Collection" option in the Settings.
This is by far the most difficult and most arduous achievement to unlock in the game, due to the sheer quantity of playthroughs required to get this achievement, and because a few photos' unlock conditions span more or less the entire playthrough.

In order to keep this guide from being absurdly massive, a separate guide for this achievement, listing out each photo's unlock conditions, can be found here.
Thanks for reading!

Hey everyone I was trying to platinum this game on ps5 and my eidetic memory achievement is bugged and is only tracking 5 out of the 6 flashbacks. I did some testing and found out that it was Naomi's flashback that was causing the issue, which also prevented me from getting the pretty heroes achievement. was just wondering if anyone else is having the same issue or found a fix for it. Thanks.

About Critical Miss… What Spike said unfortunately doesn't seem to be true. I didn't manage to roll a 1 in the Crystal Caves even after many dozens of attempts.

The very first roll of the Braxus fight during the 3rd session seems to be the real main opportunity to roll a 1, as I got it on just my second attempt. Here's a link to a save just before that roll if anyone wants to try it for themselves. [mega.nz]
Spike 4 Jul, 2024 @ 9:13pm
Oh, no, not a guaranteed roll, still have to keep trying until the RNG favours you, but in my testing and other people's testing it seems, definitely a lot of, if not most all other rolls are just incapable of ever hitting that nat 1.
Hadradavus  [author] 4 Jul, 2024 @ 12:34pm
@Spike
That specific strategy I've seen peddled around for a while as a "deterministic" way of hitting a 1, but the few tests I did of it didn't hit the 1 across a handful of attempts, to it's most likely still just RNG more than anything that can be targeted for like that.
Spike 11 Jun, 2024 @ 9:23am
After so, SO VERY MUCH re-rolling and then some deeper digging, there is apparently only ONE single opportunity to roll a 1 in L&L for Critical Miss: during the first session you have to go to the Crystal Caves, pick stealth, pick any weapon, then the following initiative roll or attack roll are the ONLY OPPORTUNITY IN THE ENTIRE GAME to roll a 1... Do not spend literal days attempting to re-roll elsewhere in places where you simply CANNOT roll a 1. I love this game, but come on... The rigged rolls are a bit much.
Pomi 30 Apr, 2024 @ 3:32am
Nevermind, for some reason mashing the left mouse button does nothing in that minigame even though it's indicated by the icon?? Either way mashing Enter did the trick
Pomi 30 Apr, 2024 @ 2:56am
Any tips for the button mashing sequence? I literally tried as hard as I could and wasn't able to overpower the game
Rivey 9 Oct, 2023 @ 6:07pm
Thanks <3
Hadradavus  [author] 9 Oct, 2023 @ 2:31pm
@Rivey
Sure. Here's a pastebin for it [pastebin.com]. It's set for the main bonfire argument before having to choose between Sage/Stella/Rosa. Save it as data.txt
Rivey 8 Oct, 2023 @ 11:47am
Can you share the savegame to replay the bonfire scene with everyone? :)
