These medium-sized fish, unlike their namesake, prefer to travel alone, only gathering together to breed. They are clearly omnivorous, seemingly eating anything that's edible. They couldn't care less about what food sources are available at any given moment. Is it a small piece of seaweed? The Antler Sardine will eat it. Is it an egg that had some sort of problem and got knocked into the ocean because what's the point in having an egg that won't hatch? The Antler Sardine will eat it. They'll even eat the remains of their own kind without a second thought. Although this behavior is considered rather weird by the more intelligent species at this time, the Antler Sardines don't care what others think. When you're a tiny alien fish in a world of dangerous creatures, you have to eat whatever you can get.
