Shieldheads are large, flightless herbivorous Skyex, in fact, they're the largest of all Skyex. They get their name from the bony plate which covers their head, which, as the dark coloration might already give away, is a highly evolved form of the horns that the base Kwyex (and many present-day species as well) have. Although they can be territorial, they will likely not be a threat to you.
