Larger Battle Maps (WH2 maps only)

Description
Expands the usable area on battle maps up to 8 times. The mod works by expanding the maximum possible used area, but is sadly still dependant on the original map supporting the larger size, which is only some of the maps. Typically the expanded maps are the ones added in the launch of WH2, so Ulthuan, Naggarond, Lustria and Southlands.

Some WH1 maps in the Empire are also affected, but the Norscan, chaos wastes, Cathay, Mountain, Sea and all seige maps are unaffected.

If it were possible to edit vanilla maps I would, but they are not currently accessible.

Warning - The further you go from the intended play area you go the greater the chance of strangeness. Wooded areas might not be tagged as such, or cliffs/bodies of water become traversable. Give them a mouseover before walking there, but your units wont fall off or drown or anything, it just looks funny as your reinforcements come walking out of the ocean.

yeah, and cavalry definetly isnt helped by being so claustrophobicly constricted

I hate how CA seems to have developed a fetish for smaller and smaller maps over time. It's very dumb. Armies are not magically dropped into a tiny box, they came *from* somewhere, meaning that maps should never be narrow on all four sides. There should always be room at least behind every army. I'm glad to see that the community is doing something about this issue.

Probably, although I cant test - it was made in such a way as to not be affected by patches generally. The bigger problem is that it only really ever worked with WH2 maps so it can look like its not working for ages until you get one of the large maps it works on

So the AI is able to pathfind and fight around the larger maps. From what I know of map making it wont be able to recognise good defensive locations outside of the normal bounds, and I've seen nothing in gameplay to suggest otherwise, but the ai is bad at that anyway.

It is also easier to pull apart because of the increased space, but that was obvious.

How does the AI react to the larger maps?

I'm playing Noctilus so reinforcements coming from the ocean seems perfectly reasonable.

Thanks, youre too kind! This mod is very simple, just 2 table entries which force the battle map borders outward. I'd love to do more work, like fixing the impassable terrain allocation, and extending the maps that this mod hasnt changed, but as of yet we cant edit vanilla maps until someone makes a tool to extract them into Terry, the terrain editor

This sounds so delightfully hopeful for what the future of open field war's can be. Imagine right, actually having a battle between the Empire's men and allied Dawi Kin against a genuine WAAAAGGHHHH 10'000s strong, all in a battle that can not only field it, but have space to maneuver and orgnaise in. If we get mods that significantly improve AI in battle to be more human with active decision making that's cohesive to an actual target, I would be so excited. I love this, thank you so much modders and Steevo, this is awesome
