To unlock the center stone cube in the temple, you must complete two puzzles: The pressure plates around the cube and the four rotating pillars.
For each puzzle you complete, one of the two stone rods (that are locking the lid of the stone cube) will start going down. Once the two rods are out of the way, the stone cube’s lid falls off.
There is also an audio queue when a rod goes down.
Is it possible you completed the rotating pillars and didn’t notice the visual and audio queues?
That's exactly what it is, a two (2) and an arrow (>). It indicates that you have shift the four numbers, found by using the ...*...*...*..., to the right by that amount.
