RMS Arundel Castle & RMS Windsor Castle

Here is the Arundel Castle and Windsor Castle of the Union Castle Line.

Both ships were planned to be built by Harland & Wolff, but due to the continuation of WW1, Arundel Castle (originally named Amroth Castle during construction) was delayed and construction of her sister (Windsor Castle) was subcontracted to John Brown & Company. The 2 ships were completed in 1921, and were the last 4 funneled ocean liners ever built, as well as the only 4 funneled liners not built for transatlantic service. They served between Southampton and Cape Town, being the largest ships operating between the UK and South Africa. In the 1930s, the 2 ships received a refit to make them more modern, by giving them a new bow, removing their gantry davits with more Welin davits, and replacing their 4 funnels with 2 larger funnels. When WW2 broke out, they were requisitioned by the Admiralty to be converted into troopships. Windsor Castle was sunk in 1943 by a German torpedo bomber, killing only one crew member. Arundel Castle survived the war and was converted back into a passenger ship in 1949. She continued to serve the South African route until she was decommissioned in 1958, being scrapped the following year.
