(6) Chorniy Bor

In many Slavic languages, the phrase "Chorniy bor" means black coniferous forest. Also in Slavic culture there is a constant traceable idea of malicious spirits waiting for people in the depths of forests. Although people were accustomed to settle in any accessible places, they often abandoned whatever they had gained if the very atmosphere of a dead place was strangling them. In one of those forsaken backwoods, Soviet forces looking for alternative supply routes and German forces looking for a way to accelerate their offensive, clashed not for life but for death.
